For my birthday I was given the Last Stand of the Wreckers. This is my first Transformers comic; well besides random ones I picked up when I was a kid and never really read.

    I'm looking forward to it.

It's probably good to get some background first. Perhaps read some wiki summaries first?

You've picked a good story to start with.

There's only one real disappointment with LSOTW: There's not many other TF comics of the same quality...

It is a good story, but might be strange for some people given most of the cast are quite obscure. There are no big name TF's here, and are mostly just name dropped. Like the previous post said, you'd need some wiki read ups :)

Well, not necessarily, because one thing LSOTW does well is taking obscure characters and introducing them to the reader via the story. Sure you can read up when everyone had their first toys released, but beyond that, most of them had little to no fiction appearances, so LSOTW is their introduction to a wider audience.

And LSOTW manages to give cannon fodder more personality than other writers manage to give their main characters in 20 issues.

Great story, and while there are other good TF comics, sadly it will be mostly all downhill from there.

Is it the trade paperback or the individual comics? If its the trade, be sure to read the short story at the end too.

Actually that's one thing I really like. I have the huge desire to see this IP realize it is strong enough that it doesn't need Optimus or Megatron. The news about the main comics line branching into two, both groups being led by bots who aren't Optimus (who I suspect is dead based on the title "Death of Optimus Prime"), that news really temps me to pick those books up.

Also for reading the wiki, I've already scoured it for cool info on a variety of subjects but nothing specifically pertaining to this book. I think I'll let the story tell me, then I'll check the wiki.

Yeah it's the trade. I intend to read that bitch cover to cover.

imo it's the best Transformers comic since 1994 (of course, that's provided you think Marvel G2 was great. If you don't, then I guess you have to go farther back :D ) And apparently there's a hardback coming out soon that has even more bonus material (I'm hoping at least a cover gallery and the rest of the Autopedia entries, but it might have even more than that)
