So my awesome in-laws got my family a Wii for X-Mas (score!)

We got a few games with it. The Princess and the Frog, Big League Sports and ROTF. I'm exchanging ROTF because I found out its the same version as the PS2 game. Maybe for that new four player Mario game?

I dunno, I haven't had a new video game system since the Gamecube came out. I got a used ps2 from a friend a couple of years ago, but I don't really play video games all that much.

What are some good games for this system? And anything I should know as far as troubleshooting and using these weird ass controlers?

MadWorld (my personal favorite game on the console), No More Heroes, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime Trilogy, New Super Mario Bros Wii are all must haves IMO.

As far as troubleshooting goes, eh not really any problems to expect from it, it's a pretty reliable system. And as for the Wiimotes, well..my grandma owns and plays a Wii so...no worries with learning 'em.

What he said, but for games I would also consider Okami and Zack and Wiki.

Edit: Also Punch out, sweet game.

    What's Okami?

Great tips! I LOVED Smash Bros on the Gamecube! And Mariokart? SOLD.

    What's Madworld?

What about Zelda games? How many are there and are they good?

An adventure game, kinda like Zelda but you play with a Wolf god.

An ultra violent action game with stylish graphics and gory deaths. Also Awesome action.
There's Twilight Princess, but I would suggest buying the Gamecube version, easier to play.

    ^cool!

    Are X-Men Legends 1 & 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 & 2 available on this system?

Preferrably MUA pt 2? I love those games but haven't played that one yet.

And also, dumb question maybe, but I can't play DVD's on this bitch can I?

First I've ever heard anyone claim one version of TP was easier than the other. I didn't find the Wii version hard anyways, plus, aiming to aim? awesome, even if the sword swinging is mostly waggle.

New Zelda game either late next year, or mid-2011. New Metroid late next year. For now, I'd highly recommend either Mario game, Metroid Trilogy, Mario Kart, Smash, Maybe Star Wars Force Unleashed, Punch-out!, Mad World, House of the Dead: Overkill, The Conduit's not bad, World at War, rent at least Dangerous Creatures, Boomblox if you like puzzle type games.

Don't forget the wonderful Virtual Console, either! or WiiWare (Contra Rebirth, and Castlevania Rebirth coming soon)

Also, you need to hit up the Wii Friends Code thread as well bud. (I do too, the number I put in there years ago was my bro's Wii, and I never remember to add my own new number!)

Just meant easier to play with the GC controller, I didn't like using the wii for it.

Do not buy New Super Mario Bros Wii. Why? Coz i'm sh*t at gaming, and even i beat the main story in that game in 3 days. And, it's amazingly easy. Very little replay value.

    Brawl is good, though.

tons of replay value. It's all in the multi-player!

Also, of note: Z:TP supports progressive scan on the Wii, but not the GC version.

Get Super Mario Galaxy. It's that one gem that justifies the Wii, even though I have been greatly disappointed with the system.

    Some other hits are:
Zelda: Twilight Princess - good game but for a Zelda game not up to par. Feels hollow. Still, much better than most games, and if you are new to the series, you probably won't notice anyway.

Smash Bros Brawl - Single player story sucks and the battle arenas are less good than in Melee, but still a very fun partygame.

Metroid Prime Trilogy - if you haven't already played these games. First game is definitely the best.

Mario Tennis is really fun too!

I would also like to suggest Zelda: Wind Waker...it's a Gamecube game but if you have a cube controller / one of those new wii controllers you can play it..if you can find it. It's an underrated gem. :)

    neat!

I LOVE the classics characters! Some Mario games trump most games I've played! And thanks! We're bowling right now! The kiddo plays it at her Dads so she's showing us the ropes

Ok, new at this. What is the Virtual Console and what are Wii Friend codes?

    Whats "Progressive Scan"?

    You! Just made my Christmas.

I'm pretty sure my credit may be completely jacked because of Wind Waker! I still don't think I've returned it to Hollywood Video! :lol

    Love that game!

Hello! Jumping in for the same reason and not wanting to start a whole new thread--new Wii owner. I've got Sports Resort on it (on top of the demo) and am having an absolute BLAST with the fencing segment.

Are there any Wii games that have a lot of Swordplay? (at least in the same sense as the way Resort works, if anyone's got that...) First thoughts go to some kind of Star Wars title, but I'm wondering what else might have been put on the market so far.
