so I was helping a buddy clean out his mom's basement, and he was giving me all of his toys to sell on ebay, with one of those "you can keep whatever you want" kind of deals. ok, so as we're going through it, I see, what's this? a back half of the diaclone black ironhide! omg. so I take a bunch of boxes, but there's no other parts to it.

cut to last week, and I go over to get a few more boxes, and what do I find, but the main bot and the rest of the pieces, including the red connector piece! well you can damn well believe I'm keeping this one. but I was just wondering, out of curiosity, is this thing actually worth much, especially since the ehobby release? that was something I was considering getting a few months ago, but boy am I glad I didn't.

You probably got the Diakron figure, not the Diaclone. There's a major difference: Diakron came out in America.

In addition to Black Ironhide, there was also Blue Trailbreaker and Red Sunstreaker.

Most people don't know about the line, nor care about it, so demand isn't high, and without high demand, there's no high prices.

it would definitely be worth something to me!!! I see your point about the value curiosity for this type of figure. I would think that a vintage complete version of a black Ironhide would be worth quite a bit of money to the right person. Maybe not as much as it would be had e-hobby not released a black one last year. Still an AWESOME find though.

yeah sadly given the release of ehobby's black ironhide, I would have to say that unless if had a good box and driver with inserts, it is probably not worth THAT much, depending on who wanted it. you might be able to fence it for oh maybe 80-100? jsut a guess. like someone else said. it is supply and demand. LOTS of supply, not so much demand.

sure guys, I'll get some pics up tomorrow! he's a bit rough, but will look great once I get some reprolabels for him. I was surprised to see that he's not a diaclone but instead a diakron. anyone want to give me a quick summary of what the story is behind those?

Diakron was Takara's attempt at bringing the Diaclone line over to the US. To my knowledge the toys use the same molding/stamping as their Japanese counterparts.

I think Gatsblocker was part of these releases. How well did Diakron sell in the US?

The toy is in decent shape. I cannot tell how the tires are. Either they need a good cleaning or they need to be replaced. I personally think the black Ironhide looks better than the red Ironhide. I should purchase the E-Hobby exclusive. Thanx for the pics. :thumbs2:

So except for the name (and inherently the product stamp) this is essentially a Diaclone toy right?

And the box of course, yeah. Diakron had a few Diaclone toys (Red Sunstreaker [which I got, nice fig], Black Ironhide and Blue Trailbreaker, as well as a few non-TF Diaclones like Gatsblocker) released in American boxes and packaging, prior to the release of TFs in 84. They were a 'test market' type of release...the majority of the stock was sent to pharmacies and grocery chains. I remember seeing them long ago in a pharmacy before the TFs. Actually, I saw them again shortly after the TFs came out too, and as a kid, thought they were a KO of TFs. How little did I know then. ;)

Cool toys, if only for the history. You can still find a good bunch pretty easy. Honestly, IMO, if you're paying more than 30-50 for a nice one w/o much wear and tear, it'd be a bit much. 80-100 if it is MIB.
