It's not the only way, or the most logical. It's the easiest, laziest way. With more inventive designers, or designers with more creative freedom, they could have made him look like anything.

Well I'm not sure if lazy's the best choice of words. Not the most creative in my opinion, but certainly not lazy. I just don't like the insect look they gave some of them.

We really don't know how good of a job he's done. No one's seen the movie yet.

Frenzy looks like a ******ed monkey had sex with a toaster, and then that toaster gave birth to some ******ed toaster-monkey.

Actually, it looks alright. I'll wait to pass TRUE judgement once I see the movie.

Honestly, yeah. I'm a designer myself, and Frenzy, along with most other designs from this film, are exactly what me and my buddies turn in when we're being over-managed by somebody who's stupid, obnoxious, and doesn't understand the process, or when we are given too little time to come up with something really good, and are under too much pressure to care.

It's also the kind of thing that you draw when you're in high school, just before you start learning the basics, and you think that scribbling a lot of complex details is good design work. But I digress.

These days, if you're strapped for time, frustrated by your boss or the project, then you turn out asymmetrical robots and cyborgs and ships that have all these little spikes and doohickeys that fool your supervisor, who hasn't had a creative thought in his head his whole life, into thinking that a lot of thought and consideration went into the project. I know my credentials can't be verified, and my opinion is worth about as much as anyone else's, but I'm telling you, Frenzy took a character designer an afternoon to whip out.

Perhaps, but it takes a freakin lot of work and money to turn that scribble into reality.

Yeah, it probably did. You try to make designs with the modelers in mind, but that's not an issue on a large production. They had a tremendous team working on this, and a dozen interns to sit there and hit "render" all day until you could see condensation on Bumblebee's headlights. Like I've mentioned before, I've no doubt that ILM will animate these things beautifully. However, if these things look amazing, bear in mind that it's because the CG teams are very talented and have a ton of resources. It doesn't excuse the initial design work. What's important now is that the animation and film itself is good enough to carry the bad decisions.

It's very possible that all the folks against these designs, myself included, will end up enjoying the film regardless. A good example is Spider-man. The costume designer was and is a total hack, but people could excuse the Goblin and [the lack of work on] Doctor Octopus, because the movies were so damn good. But people can't overlook the jerk's work on Paintball-Goblin and Dyed-Black Spidey because the film wasn't there to back them up.

That's the real thing that I dread about this movie. Bay isn't a solid enough director to manage a weak script, weak cast, and the weak aesthetic. He can barely make a decent movie with one or towo of those things working against him. He'd have been better off with something a little more solid. I guess we'll see soon enough..

Well yea of course. Saying one is like saying the other. Just switch the words around. But I'm going for possitive thinking at the moment.
