Yeah, I think we should wait for the actual figures -- the issue sold out, and I doubt IDW would've only had printed the same number of copies as Infiltration #5 or #6 when they had retailer exclusives pitched at higher block orders and they know sales dip for the latter end of miniseries.

    ...

    Hang on... just realised...
...the estimates are based on chart position in relation to the top-seller, aren't they? Which would make these figures worse than wrong, into FUD territory.

Those are figures based on their stats.

But once again, Stu, I think you save the day by pointing us to that link at newsarama.

Those guys point out that this months figures will be incredibly skewed secondary to Batmans much improved performance this month.

As this month will be quite different then, I have removed those estimates based on last month.

Better to listen to Stu, and wait this month for the actual sales figures.

    http://www.newsarama.com/marketreport/july06sales.html

Can anyone offer any insight into why Batman isn't the =100 index title?

Seems to be either that Newsarama are using a different scale or have simply fucked up. Or... it could be that Diamond's data is skewed due to recent IT problems being more widespread than reported, and nobody (at several stages of it being disseminated) checked it. Are Newsarama the only site reporting this data?

    Something's decidedly unusual, anyhow.

wow. Infiltration lost 9 thousand readers from #5 to #6? And they weren't all that great to begin with either.

No. Those are the estimates Shockwav worked out based on the seriously screwy figures from Diamond -- Primal's just comparing with the figures from ICv2 for June and May. They've been edited out of the top post, but are still in the thread.

So now you know. And having ordinary guns and rifles that shoot lasers but no-one seems surprised about is half the battle.

Comic Book Resources has the same data, but lists the top 300 comics

    Batman #655 is ranked 5th... unless I don't get what you're asking...

Not the rank, the index... Batman (historically a book with stable figures) is assigned the position of 100, and an index of 50 would be half the sales of Batman, an index of 200 would be twice the sales of Batman, etc. It's used as a simple measure like in stock markets.

The figures Newsarama and CBR have don't show Batman at the 100 spot, so something's borked.

    [edit]

    Bit of explanation here: http://www.comicbloc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29021

People claiming to have precise figures work for a publisher and are being unusually free with information, are Diamond insiders (and probably in breach of contract) or are simply lying.

    Actual numbers in. :)  http://www.icv2.com/articles/home/9143.html

    88 TRANSFORMERS INFILTRATION #6 25,303 copies
    93 TRANSFORMERS STORMBRINGER #1 24,542 copies
    104 TRANSFORMERS HEARTS O/STEEL #1 20,533 copies
    155 TRANSFORMERS GENERATIONS #5 11,141 copies

    Ahhhhhhh.

That's better. And Stormbringer is likely an underestimate, as August will include more reorders of #1 in all likelihood.

Uh, 12,986 - 11,141 = 1,845. If we're going to talk about the figures, could we maybe start double-checking stuff? It seems to be confusing the audience and FUD isn't good.

Infiltration was expected to fall over the course of an arc/mini. On the other hand, Stormbringer was expected to be the next point for a rise. Hopefully those won't be the final figures for #1.

And do we have any idea what went wrong or changed with the indexes yet?
