So I have been working to get a shelf in the Masterpiece scale (give or take) for the Season 1 Decepticons. Since obviously most figures are not in MP size, I decided to mix and match some G1 toys with KO toys and the MP figures. I used some steps to give a greater height to Soundwave (KO repainted with new face sculpt) and Shockwave (KO) in comparison to Megatron. I used the insecticon reissues as the insecticons were always supposed to be smaller any way. Then I used the cassettes and pimped out Frenzy and Rumble with the Crazy Devy Set. I think this looks pretty good. The only thing that kinda bugs me is the Skywarp. I wonder if he is taking up to much space. So I was wondering what you guys think of this shelf (it is actually 2 detolf's side by side)? Also others who want to get an opinion on your shelf, please post it here.
Too funny... BTW, the custom KO soundwave on EBay now a days are dirt cheap. They are going for like $60. Some with better articulation in the knees with whole new heads. You may want to check it out if your looking for a bigger scaled Soundwave.
I like it. My only thing is would be too throw the Insecticons out. They look like the odd man out, maybe bring Skywarp up into front or across the middle splitting Shock and Scream. The tapes are small period, the rest are large figures, the Insecticons should still look more imposing over the tapes, but since they are not and out of joint with the others, pull them out and see what happens
Unfortunately the Skywarp doesn't fit in the middle, trust me I tried. Got very frustrated finding a place for it. As for the insecticons. I knew they were going to be small to start with. I just went for it though. Realistically, unless they make KO oversized insecticons, no insecticons are really going to fit to scale. Who knows, maybe the FP ones will. If they do, I will need to revisit them. I really want to have all of the Season 1 Decepticons or else I may have moved them. I saw some one take out the side glass on the detolfs and do side by side detolfs with the missing centers. Then he took long shelves and put them all the way across. I want to try that, but I haven't found good shelves for them. I would need to get something custom cut. Not sure I want to do that yet though.
I would try two things: 1) Transform Skywarp to robot mode. The plane is hidden behind Starscream 2) If you want to keep the SW in alt mode then switch spots with Starscream so the plane is in front of Skywarp. Just my
Taking into account the suggestions, here is the new setup. I had to switch the insecticons to the other side because Skywarp took up too much space. I also swapped Soundwave with Shockwave since Shockwave is second in command. How does this look? (One day I will use my tripod and take a decent shot)
Awesome figures, love the Soundwave. But too me the MP figures don't really mix well with the other older figures. They stick out as much superior figures.
Yeah, I knew some people would say that about mixing old and new. That doesn't bother me so much. Having said that, I am hoping as time goes by, the older ones will get substituted by some awesome MP scaled ones. I don't care if it is Has/Tak or a some Third Party company doing them. Also, if anyone has the KO Soundwave, stick two Double A's and a Triple A in his back. It give's it enough weight to actually not tip over all the damn time.
Yeah don't mind me though. I'm pretty anal with this stuff sometimes. I'm hoping the next MP is Sounwave. If he came with some MP cassettes BAM! your shelf will look way better. Also, have you considered getting Thundercracker and maybe the iGear seekers?
I think if they finally decided to step up and actually release a MP Soundwave, that bad boy would sell like hot cakes. I mean, everyone's favorite characters in TF were: - Optimus - Megatron - Starscream - Devastator - Soundwave We know we are never seeing MP Devastator from Takara. So that would leave Soundwave. Unless they finally release Ultra Magnus with Trailer.
The G1 stuff seems so out of place. It's just my opinion so don't be upset but I do like the idea of Laserbeak on MP Meg's! Also, you should consider dumping those G1 Tapes for the PE version I think they stand in well with MP figures (This is my setup, sorry it's so dark. We have energy efficient bulbs so it takes a minute to light up) and here is one of the PE figures with my now sold Walmart Skywarp
I agree about transforming Skywarp to robot mode; having him as the only one in alt mode sort of unbalances things a little. Other than that, that's a kickass display, man.
