Eh, I don't know about that. Unlike the TF movies, the first Dredd movie barely made its money back (...worldwide. It didn't even make half its budget back domestically). I think it was considered a financial flop. It may be fondly remembered by us nerds now, but it didn't really find an audience at the time.
DREDD EXCLUSIVE first look! Comic Con 2012 Pre-Pre-Preview! 6/19/2012 - YouTube We are getting a trailer soon. June 21 And if you can't wait that long, then to the 2:50 mark in the video above for a small peek at the trailer. (NOTE that I haven't seen the small peek yet)
Uh, why is this even a Judge Dredd movie? I'm no expert on the character, so I don't know if this "slo-mo" drug was ever in the books, but that just seems like such a generic plot.
I don't know... some parts at the end looked interesting, but mostly I have the feeling I like Sly's Dredd much more.
The helmets look a bit large the more I look at it. I kinda liked the Stallone version better. Come to think of it, I kinda like the Stallone version as a whole better.
That trailer wasn't terrible, but it could have been so much better. To be honest, it looks like a mix between Robocop 2 and The Raid Redemption with a bit of Batman: Arkham Asylum in it. It just looks a little generic. However, it looks like one of those movies that will look good in 3D just from the look of it.
Yeah, it doesn't look bad, overall. It just doesn't really look like Judge Dredd either. I mean, if you take away the Judge helmet then it's just some generic post-apoc/dystopian future.
Looks better then I was expecting for $45 million thougth. At that price, I won't grouse about the near future thing as long they get relatively close to the tone and characters this time.
It's...beautiful. Thanks for the link! EDIT: Is that Lena Headey? It is! This film keeps getting better and better.
Is it just called 'Dredd' then? That's kinda disappointing. I suppose they're trying to distance themselves from the Stallone movie.
I'm very excited for this film, despite how much I know about the comics (5%). I will definitely be seeing this in 3D. Especially after seeing the trailer.
Looks about 10 billion times better than the Stalone movie. But I wish they'd been able to capture the MC1 architecture a bit better. I guess that's how they kept costs down, though. They could use modern everyday settings and just do slight digital extensions to them rather than creating everything from scratch in every shot. Every other aesthetic change -- bikes, guns, uniforms -- I'm perfectly fine with. I think the helmets are perfect.
