EXACTLY. That script still baffles me. I'll keep watching it over and over just for the other things, though
Well, i like the Stallone's version. Its a good action movie to watch and own on DVD. Plus Rob Scheider was funny. And the robot was kick ass! ^^ If the new Dredd says "I am the Law!" i will die happy. XD
I was one of the few assholes who enjoyed the original. Maybe it was the setting or something, but I did enjoy it. Looking forward to more from this.
Having looked at the links I feel even better about this movie. It's going to get an R rating which is appropriate to the world of Dredd. It's a gritty, shitty horrible place where summary executions and police brutality are part of every day life. In addition... YES. FINALLY. I love the Lawmaster, I hope they keep all of the fun toys it has. That's what Dredd is pretty much about. But you know what makes me the happiest? THANKYOU.
I too liked the Original film too, and because I've read (and 2000AD in general) the whole 'booted into cursed earth before I knew the character' didn't apply to me. It was the changes in the judges system which confused me. You have the SJS, Dredd on court martial but not Titan trips? Also, where are the Psi's? whole film could have been neater if Anderson has a quick probe in Dredds mind and knows he's innocent. However, Dredd's 'I am the Law' line in the original film was probably the best use of it. 'I am not above the law! I AM DA LAAAAW!'
I liked the Stallone version. It wasn't perfect and got a cartful of things wrong (IMO) but it was entertaining enough as a movie. Didn't photos of the gun and bike for this new movie crop up a while back? I remember not liking them at all. Same with the Judge uniform (helmet was okay-ish). Everything just looked a bit too near future, like it could happen ten years from now. Was too realistic and not based enough on the comics for me. If you're gonna make a Judge Dredd movie then make a Judge Dredd movie. From what I've seen and read it sounds more like a generic future cop movie with a guy in a helmet sneaking around under the Dredd name.
When did "they" ever think of something original... And I too enjoyed the original, comic fans are too picky.
BOING! First goods pics - http://www.empireonline.com/magazine/large.asp?2671 http://www.bleedingcool.com/2011/07...mages-including-first-look-at-judge-anderson/ Looks cool to me, helmet doesen't look as silly big like the previous pics and the rest is almost strait out of the late 70s aside from the body armour.
I want to say it needs shoulder eagles, but I'm going to try and keep an open mind about this. That helmet though is spot on!
I liked the Stallone version of Judge Dredd, I thought the costumes and set design and special effects (The ABC Warrior especially) were pretty good. In fact the movie made me read a few Judge Dredd/2000AD comics. I never caught onto them like I did DC, but they were still interesting. In retrospect, removal of the helmet was a mistake, because Dredd looked AWESOME with it on, and as a bit of heresy I really liked the giant bling shoulders, the remind me (now) of Paladin PvP armour from WoW. That said, roll on the better adaptation, and Karl Urban is as always, very watchable.
