I never really read the Dredd comics, but I always thought the concept behind him was cool. When I saw the movie with Sly Stone, AGAINA, never having read the comics, I was like WTF is this! LOL, no way they got this right. So looks like we are gonna get a second shot at him. So far looks good. I like Keith Urban as an actor, and that good ole R rating gives me hope. http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/karl-urban-confimed-for-a-hard-r-rated-judge-dredd-movie/ http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/971750/domhnall_gleeson_gives_new_details_of_dredd_movie.html
Could be good, could be tasty. Need to see final helmet and Lawmasters before I decide if I'm stoked for this or not.
Vaguely hopeful here. It can't suck any more than the Stallone version, and they've got a lead who can act this time. The R rating would be what in the UK? an 18 or a 15? Either way a pretty good sign.
People complained about the first movie, but I liked it and I would be fine if Sly would starr again in a sequel. I think he might even fit better right now, because when I google of images of the comics, the original Judge Dredd isn't a beauty either and having Sylvester Stallone aged, he might fit the role even better. So who knows... but that's just me. Just read the links: Sounds promising!
Actually, this is not a remake, it's a totally different adaptation of the same source material. Same principle as Tim Burton's Batman movies and Christopher Nolan's Batman movies.
Yeah, not really a remake, more 'this is how we should have done it.' Having said that there are elements in the Stallone Dredd film that are good. But (according to the stuff I've read) studio interference was RIFE in that film, especially since this was the Directorial debut of Danny Cannon. According to Cannon, he wanted Dredd to keep his helmet on, and the studios said they had to see Stallones face. The Versace designed uniforms were forced into the production. Stuff like that. Anyway hopefully this will have little interference, ala Dark Knight, but if Green Lantern reviews are anything to go by...
'ABC Warrior! Rip off Judge Griffins arms!' Or was is Judge Silver? That old movie did get a lot right. -Redesigned Lawgivers (ie, Lawgiver Mk 2) looked awesome. -Realisation of the Hall of Justice was great. -Casting on the whole was great. Diane Lane as Judge Hershey was inspired. -Angel Gang and Cursed Earth were brilliant. But they totally threw away a lot of stuff. As a corrupt Judge, Dredd would have been sent to Titan (prison for Judges on the... Jupiter (?) moon) not sitting on a normal meat wagon. Also, nobody in their right mind would EVER attempt to bribe a Judge, let alone Dredd.
I really think that the original movie was simply a victim of a bad script and the things imposed. I thought Sly made a GREAT Judge Dredd, and it had the environment and feel of a great adaptation. Attachments for more awesome. Alan Silvestri's score was so magnificent as well.
Thing is that Sly could still play Joe Dredd. The character has aged in real time, he's pushing 60 now. And you could have Karl Urban play young Joe Dredd. Or the new Dredd clone Rico.
The Stallone movie did so many things right, especially the block war. I would't mind it if Dredd took his helmet off once or twice, but the whole point about Dredd is that you don't see his face. He's this masked personification of the legal system that is almost completely devoid of humanity.
This. Stallone should never have left Mega City in the flick. Save the OMG CONSPIRACY AND BETRAYAL stuff for sequel fodder. We didn't know him well enough to care when he got booted into the Cursed Earth.
