Bumblebee was a Staff Car of some sort, and Hot Rod was a cargo truck.

 

Just goes to show the artists have no effing idea what the defining features of the namesake character were. I really think they just slap names on these atrocities.

 

To be fair, that's not really how commissioned art works. As a amature commissioned artist myself, you don't just draw what you think it should look like, you draw what the person paying you wants it to look like.

 

Precisely. Remember, he's the guy who did Long Haul.



This design just about rivals OT Optimus in how G1 it is, and despite being mere fanart at the time, landed him the job as a proper TF concept artist. It's entirely because he wasn't commissioned that Long Haul looks so G1.

Besides, this Hot Rod looks just about final, concept art wise. Hopefully we can get some earlier concepts soon.

 

Sentinel definitely had the best balance between robotic and human. Though I thought Lockdown's was awesome too, not so cartoony in proportions as Crosshairs' and not as overly human as Drift of Hound's.
Anyway, nice concept, though as others have said it would be nice to see art of how he looked in that scene.

 

Truck Hot Rod. Now there's a contradiction. Still, it's a cool design, just like Bees. I really, really hope these two designs get made into toys, to fill out the BB movie's toyline.

 

At least someone else here understands how concept art works. Listen people, artists get project briefs that details how the characters should look. Even if you didn't know this it's clear from concept art that look radically different. Take a look at this early concept.



That was Starscream until Bay stated how the characters should be different. Just because there has been an original interpretation of a character that doesn't mean that's the only version of the character. That's so basic in Transformers.

 

Yes! Finally someone else noticed the Princess Leia helmet from Return of the Jedi. I'm surprised no other nerds picked up on that.

Still though Hot Rod was a waste, among other things in the film. But I think that whole WWII scene was just a setup for Bumbler's film. And he'll probably have some sort of amnesia (ala a shot to the head or whatever) causing him not to have remembered Edmond Burton as a small boy.

 

Well, tank Hot Rod, going off the kibble instead of the onscreen alt.

Bumble I think might happen, but Hot Rod doesn't seem too likely. I kinda wish we got a full-on WWII toyline, there's so many vehicles I wanna see as robots, it's a damn shame how few of them there actually are.

At least Bee should talk in this movie. The whole voice issue should have ended in TF1 when he started talking then. Perhaps that "shot to the head" theory could damage his voice box at the same time.  

 

Yes and no. Remember Ratchet said he was still working on it in the first film. Still it only stands to reason him being able to talk from a story point of view, or its just Herbie the love bug. But I wouldn't put it past the producers to do that.

 

Not surprising they thought Hot Rod\'s helmet looked like Princess Leia\'s.  This movie stole things from the Star Wars franchise.  Those Tie Fighters, the AT-DP, that little useless droid.

 

Gotta be honest while I'm glad they didn't go with this design, I do wish they would've kept the head and the normal non-chicken legs.

 

More I see of his work the more I'm impressed. What irked me the most about Hot Rod was his accent. It's French if the closed captions told me correctly. Why be so specific yes there is that joke and they are in France. No one else has their accents pined down and thus it feels like a cheap joke just for filler.

 

This is the Bayverse we're talking about. I can count the number of jokes like the 'Ut Rud' (in terms of being filler) one that have genuinely landed on one hand.

 

Yes. I didn't say there aren't any WWII TFs out there.

 

That's true now that I remember. It would be nice if they share them someday. I actually prefer transformers to change into older vehicles.

 

And yet he's a Lambo in the early 1900s. Fascinating.
