I have an idea regarding where Jolt comes into the movie, based on the fact that we know he is a late addition and not part of the novelisations. In the novel, Ron and Judy Witwicky are apparently captured by a 'Con while on holiday in France. Now, I seem to remember somebody getting some video of the couple running down an alley, trying to get into a small blue eco car (or chasing one, I can't remember which). My idea is that Jolt might've been added to the script as a sort of bodyguard for Sam's parents, assigned to them by Optimus for their overseas trip. Perhaps even without their knowledge. It would at least give more tension for the whole "Decepticons snatching Sam's parents" bit, since you'd think the Autobots would've thought ahead there, and also because then you have an example to bring in a bit-part 'Bot like Jolt, have him transform, try and fight a 'Con and get killed. Makes the kidnapping more sinister and, I believe, makes perfect sense. Any thoughts?
All I know is they filmed that scene a half-block away from my apartment, and I wanted to know really badly what was going on. Not much to see without the CG, though.
I actualy think he got more survival chances that let's say... Sideswipe. He's Chevry's biggest bet for the future market, and we do know that Orci REALLY wanted to put the character in, so why all that fuss just to make a redshirt?
Based on the five new photos that were released today (just alt mode) we know that he at least shows up in Egypt with Ironhide, Sideswipe, and Ratchet. I'm more curious about Arcee's role in the movie than Jolt's considering how little of the motorcycles were scene on set. Makes me wonder if maybe Jolt's shoehorn into the movie came at the expense of Arcee's involvement after the intro scene in Shanghai. Might explain why Arcee was present and Jolt absent at the final battle in the novelization, yet set photos show Jolt in Egypt and no sign of Arcee (unless her alt mode is totally CG for most of the movie)
