Um, what happened to this guy? He has one of the most important roles in the first movie.
I think they could of wrote him into the next two movies, maybe working besides General Morshower.
A funny way of thinking about it, he fell into the land of the lost Transformer characters. A serious way, he was written out or forgotten.

They couldn't get his actor back, probably.

They probably could not write him another role in the other films I guess.

Him and Banacheck are two really troublesome pieces of this franchise: They disappeared, but their roles would be alluded/needed in future movies, Keller would be useful in both ROTF and DOTM to help out the Autobots with not being exiled by the government [since Keller direclty fought agains the 'Cons, WITH A SHOTGUN, he probably likes the 'Bots], and according to DOTM, only the director of Sector 7 knew about the moon landing: That's Banacheck's rank.

It's obvious why they couldn't get Banacheck back.

They couldn't pay him, he's banned from checks.

Not that I know how they got him in the first place...

I wouldn't have minded if his character was back for the second or third. But there was no pressing need for him either. Now, if he returned in a fourth movie, that'd be sweet. Perhaps make him President? :)

And just because a character isn't in a sequel doesn't mean that "the writers forgot about him". I don't know where people get these impressions. Characters serve their purpose and they move on. Alan Grant wasn't essential to The Lost World: Jurassic Park, thus, he wasn't in it. But he was back for JPIII. With the chance of future movies, you can never be too sure if characters will show up again. If they're needed again, they'll show up. If the filmmakers deem them necessary for the story, they'll be in it. If not, they won't. It's pretty simple. If Justin Hammer doesn't show up in Iron Man 3, will people be blaming the writers for "forgetting about him"?

:lol  Now this is my sense of humour right here!

I'll give you credit for coming up with something like that.
And that take it away because that was kind of lame :>

As for John Keller, Bush was president in 07, Obama was president in ROTF. Maybe that's why?

Several of the human characters were better than the humans we got in the sequels - Keller was definitely one of them for me.

It would have been great to see him back in the sequels. I like it when a series keeps its characters when it can from film to film - it makes for a more solid continuation for me.

This. He was one of the more realistic/enjoyable characters from the trilogy.

I would've loved a scene where Mearing gets a phone call from Keller saying that after this whole incident, saying that she is "hereby discharged from duty". :ev:

    Absolutley.

Personally I always believed that after Obama kicked him out, he joined NEST and ran into every battle with his trusty shotgun and died during the Shanghai Fight. IMO he's the guy in the casket when we see the Autobots back at base.

    That's the obvious, in-continuity explanation.

Personally, I prefer to speculate that Jon Voight simply finally figured out the hidden context of the line they hypothetically tricked him into delivering:

"You mean to tell me that I can't pick up this phone and call my fam-..."

This, of course, taking place at a time when he was making public appeals on television to his daughter, Angelina Jolie, begging her to simply take answer his phone calls at the very least.

    Haha...OUCH.

    D:

I still get a morbid little chuckle out that scene every time I watch that first movie, lol.

    ;)

Yeah, I wish Keller had appeared in the sequels. He would have made a great counterfoil to Galloway's anti-Transformer stance (seeing as Keller was convinced the Autobots were on their side), and in DOTM you could have replaced him with Mearing as they both had the same function.

I guess with the change in administration (Bush-Obama) he was shelved or retired. Or it's likely he knew this wasn't over, and knew he was too old to actively participate so he decided to make a graceful exit, after the Laurentian Abyss disposal.
