As long as Ben Affleck doesn't play Spock I'm cool with Damon.

It'd be awesome if Affleck played Spock. And Kevin Smith as Scotty!

No, I'm not serious. Star Trek needs a revival, and if they think Matt Damon can bring new fans into the fold, go for it. More importantly, though, the script's got to be good - it doesn't matter what big names they bring in if they haven't got that.

Wasn't the rumor of that treatment of Star Trek shot down a while back?

But can he do the Shat?

There's a simple way to bring Trek back, Picard and Kirk on a planet of beautiful alien Amazons. They both go shirtless, oil up and fight to the death in an arena with Tridents, Nets and Daggers!

Is it too soon to whisper Oscar?

Isn’t Damon at lest as old as the Shat was when he played Kirk in the original show?

Isn't funny how most people like Matt Damon, but almost everyone has a bad taste for Ben Affleck?

I think Damon would be great for the role. It would have to be a complete comedy if Affleck was in it as well though.

It is. Died just after DS9. Everything since then has been a corpse's random spasms.

How about as the "cannon-fodder" crew member who gets killed on the first away-mission.

    Yyyyyyyyyyup. Pretty much.

Personally, I'm all for this. I really hope that bringing Matt Damon on board for a film - and maybe lining the cast with one or two other major film names - might breathe "cultural entertainment" life back into Star Trek and remove it from the ubernerd niche it's steadily sunk into over the past 15 years.

For a while, us Trek fans had it all, back during TNG and DS9. Nowadays...ugh.

That's because UPN Trek was dumbed down for the same market demographic that watched professional wrestling, instead of written up to the milions of people that already enjoyed Star Trek. That's why Voyager's only fully developed characters were the hologram and the borg's boobs.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know if you've seen the fan-made Star Trek shows that are on the internet, but they've been getting a lot of attention now that TV Trek is over and fans are dying for a fix. Writers from The Original Series & DS9 are writing scripts for some of them. Gene Roddenberry's son is working on one of the biggest projects, New Voyages, which is filming new episodes now with Sulu & Chekov. (The original actors.)

Now there's an even bigger project announced this week:

You can d/l the pilot & the first full episode of New Voyages at: newvoyages.com They even have full DVD versions via Bit Torrent with all the bells & whistles. They're goofy as hell, but you can definately see how much they're into it. And that makes it a fun time for a serious Trekkie.

    New Voyages = Love.

Hokey and ridiculous as it may be, you can see that there's a lot of passion going into each of those episodes. That's, in my opinion, what makes them so enjoyable.

The fact that Matt Damon is involved with this is not nearly as exciting as J.J. Abrams. And I don't even like Star Trek.

Yep, that about says it, though I did like Nemesis for the most part even though most of the sub-plot was stolen from Star Trek II and they cut some of the best scenes out of it.

Actually I don't mind Enterprise, it's only on TV once a week so you can't really get sick of watching it too much, and if you kind of force yourself to forget everything you know about Trek it makes a little more sense.

I just like the atmosphere of the Enterprise in Enterprise, they try and make it seem like early space tech, everything has to have a purpose on the ship and they're all crammed for space, kind of like how I picture life on an air craft carrier or submarine.
