Wondering if the initial line in question was from Diaclone/Micro Change or if it was another unrelated line. Guessing the Diaclone/Microchange toys are referred to as the "more advanced technology" specified in the article.

It still surprises me how close Transformers came to being a very, very different property.

And I always thought "Auntie" was just a concept name for Teletran-1, not the whole ship!

Take everything Jim Shooter says with a grain of salt. Or maybe a whole handful.

    Interesting trivia!

I also wonder what the initial line was if Transformers were 'more complex'.

Why? The man was editor-in-chief of Marvel back then.
    Is he known to lie?

Care to tell us why, or are you just casting doubt for no apparent reason?:inquisiti

    Great job...this is cool

Shooter has been part of both mythos I love...I figured out as a kid, the "secret Joe" in the marvel issue codenamed "shooter" was from one of the credits at the front of the book...Thats how I started paying attention to what artist drew what, and who in the hell this "hama" guy was...

C'mon....The guys last name is SHOOTER....how can anyone besides a tree huggin hippie NOT like him?!?!?

Shooter pissed off a lot of people over the years and since he tends to be fairly blunt a lot of people in the industry have a vested interest in casting doubt on things he says. Because otherwise they come off as assholes.

I've never personally seen anything he said disproven outright, though sometimes his memory differs from others - but that's par for the course for anybody remembering things 30 years later.

I'll put it this way - the comics professionals I've seen saying he's full of shit are not always the most reliable themselves(john byrne, etc). Which is not to say he's not full of it, but I've never seen anyone conclusively lay out the case that he is. And he is still friends with plenty of people known to be honest and forthright, like Steve Ditko.

So yeah, take it with a grain of salt, but not more than you would for anybody else with enemies.
