anyone pick up this album yet? i did....never been a huge fan of jayz but that ep he did with linkin park got me into him alot more and ive been needing to get some of his older stuff, so i figured id buy this new album....its cool...starts off fun, for about the first 4 or 5 tracks, then meanders and gets a little boring, then comes back strong on the last 2 tracks....and track 11, i think, just annoys me....he drops the dreaded N word so many times, and the song with usher just makes me wanna kill people....but i still havent given it my final conclusion as ive only listend to it once so far, but just wondered what others thought...

yaeh, he retired....but retiring nowadays is like dying in comics...it just sets you up for a big comeback....

I can't speak for the new Jay-Z, but I definitely loved The Blueprint, Black Album, and In my Lifetime Vol 1.

He tried to retire after Vol 3, actually. Then he did 4 more albums... It shouldn't surprise anyone he came back again. I mean, how do you retire when you still love to work? He wanted to focus on his business, but obviously he needed to do music again too...

Haven't listened to this album yet but he's one of my favorite MCs. Kinda dissappointed me that he gave us all that crap about retiring, only to come back. Same thing with DMX. You can't "retire" from Hip Hop. Its a lifestyle. You retire from life and what do you have? Death?

His album was sold out at Target when I went to pick it up yesterday. So I picked up Snoop's new one. Not bad. Still wanna get Jay Z though.

Snoop's got a new album out? Damn, I'm not keeping up to date with some Hip Hop. Then again, I'm not that interested in Snoop these days. He's waaay past his prime.

Wanna check out Game's new album too. I throughly enjoyed The Documentary. It impressed me GREATLY.

I think for me, buying a Snoop album is just a normal ritual. Anytime he puts something new out, there's always a few tracks I'll like even if it doesn't sell well. I remember I was one of the first kids in my school to pick up Doggystyle when it first came out.

Doggystyle was a great album. Much better than The Chronic.

Indeed, "retiring" is a big BS move to generate more interest for your next project when you miraculously "make a come back." Even frigging Dave Mustaine from Megadeth has pulled that. The last MD album was supposed to be the last one....but nope.

Can you retire if no one really buys your albums anymore though?

You mean Snoop's right? Hmm, might have to check it out.

Anyways, I don't care what they think in LA. Doggystyle>The Chronic any day of the freaking week.

No, the Jay Z album. Dre seems to have mixed all the tracks and even produced a few of them.

mmmmmm. commercially the album has done GREAT. overall: Kingdom Come doesn't nearly approach his best work. ironically he IS the "mike jordan of recordin' ". As for the game, feh. i see him more as an entertainer than rapper. the majority of his lyrics revlolve around references to other hip hop artists, albums, song's etc. I'd much rather drop my cash on the Clipse's new cd. it's been a looooooooooong wait for hell hath no fury. . . .
