How do I read Japanese websites? Thanks in advance for the help.
The Tech Support Forum is for board related problems only.
I'm moved this to GD where someone will no doubt be able to help.
There is a "Translate a Web page" section where you can paste in a url. It will only translate the text on the page, not images, but it works pretty well.
What do u mean exatly? Do you want to be able to see japanese characters(Kanji) on your screen instead of a bunch of weird characters like " "(weird insead of looking like just a box its invisable here) or do you want to take websites filled with japanese text and read them in english?
Learn Japanese Or Just Get A Translotor?
I think you would use a Translator
You know what I love about machine translations from Japanese to English? The way that Japanese is so dissimilar from western language that the translation is bordering on useless.
For example, my post, translated to Japanese then back to English:
Thanks D_C yet another way for me to waste time at work, homemade engrish.
Like others have said, use a translator or install the Japanese add-on for Windows (I think that's what it's called)
Oddly enough "touching needlessly" does kind of mean the same thing as "bordering on useless" but only in the most technical sense.
Well, there's part of the problem right there. We all use idioms in everyday speech as mental shortcuts. "Bordering" has an abstract connotation in our culture as well as concrete one, but the equivalent Japanese word is more general, thus it sees no reason why it can't apply a synonym on the way back into English.
EDIT: Wow, the retranslated version came back pretty similar to the original... Oh
Thanks guys. I will put these suggestions to use.
Separate names with a comma.
