Jackie deserves the break - he's achieved so many amazing things throughout his career. I'm hoping he'll partially remain in the stunt business as a choreographer or something like that, though.

Guys, apparently people misunderstood what he meant. He posted on his Facebook page that he's not done with action movies, just the life-threatening stunts.

For people who can't see Facebook:

Sadly having grown up on old-school kung-fu flicks, Jackie's lost his step years ago. Probably should have retired a lot earlier.

Not that I blame the guy, dude did the farking impossible back in the day. And stunts that an american studio just wouldn't underwrite because the insurance wouldn't cover it!

And for pete's sake the guy's over 70! (and still does stunts better than 90% of the wire arts and CGI peeps of today.)

And era has passed, and I'm going to have a toast.

    To Sir Jacky! :drunk

Actually he's only 58. But yeah, he's getting a little doughy. Compared to his prime, he's slowed down considerably, especially when you go back and watch Drunken Master. I wish he and Jet Li would've done their first movie together a couple of decades earlier. And of course, I wish he never wasted a lot of his time on a dozen shitty American action movies like the Tuxedo or Around the World in 80 Days, while China got some of his better stuff like New Police Story.

I thought he was basically just producing at this point.

But good for him, he leaves behind a body of work that will be unlikely to be matched soon, if ever. I'm interested to see some of his serious work, though I cant help but think hed be better suited to comedy.

He... does dramas all the time. Watch Shinjuku Incident and 1911 (they're on Netflix).

A lot of his more recent movies have toned down the martial arts and fight-scene-to-fight-scene pace to involve more dramatic elements. I think he got the best mix of both in Gorgeous, though. Probably my favorite of his movies since his team-ups with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao.

Don't watch his American releases, they're garbage.

It doesn't surprise me. He is getting old to keep doing the stunts.

Well deserved, Jackie. Go on and relax now.

EDIT: Oh, just life-threatening stunts? Well, that's still admirable. And actually, almost better, I suppose.
