‘Amazing Spider-Man 2′: Should J.K. Simmons Return as J. Jonah Jameson?
YES !!!!!!! I loved him in the Raimi film's and he just fit's the role of JJJ.
I would be so happy if he came back! Almost as much as if Spidey was in Avengers 2!
A big emphatic NO. He was good in the original trilogy and his over-the-topness character matched those movie's campy tone, but it wouldn't work at all for this new version of the franchise. Plus that's walking a dangerous line when trying to establish a complete reboot but having a same actor/character crossover from old franchise to new franchise.
I see what you're saying, but he was easily the best part of the Raimi Spider-films, so if he dialed the antics back, just a bit, I think it could work.
Maybe, but it works for Dame Judi Dench as "M" in the Bond films.
Woops wrong person Yesssss
Best part of the Raimi movies or not - it doesn't mean he should transcend both versions of the franchise, especially not when these new movies are supposed to be their own unique universe completely unrelated to the previous movies. To me, it completely defeats the purpose and makes no more sense than also bringing in Raimi's Aunt May, Bruce Campbell doing one of his overhyped cameos, etc. I agree, I'm sure he *could* do a good job again, but I don't think it should (or will) happen.
But the Bond movies are completely different monster in terms of continuity, sequels and whatnot. Simmons showing up in the new Spider-Man's would be akin to Michael Gogh (Burton's Alfred) showing up in the Nolan Batman's.
I say they should use Stan Lee as Jonah Jameson, since the character was based in the Man himself and he always wanted to play it.
^ Not a bad idea, but I think Stan's assorted cameos in every Marvel film are just as cool. It's like searching Pixar films for their various gags and references like A113 and Pizza Planet.
I would love him back as Jameson.
Just don't bring his mother into this.
good, him and Willem Dafoe; were the best part of the first three films. oh and bruce campbell. he needs to be in the next movie too.
He should. He was so damn perfect as J. Jonah Jameson. He is one of the few good things about Ultimate Spider-Man.
Also i think J.K Simmons would make for a great Ultra Magnus.
^ in the jj Jameson voice
I couldn't think about any other person who could play J.J.J. And I also had an idea for a cameo where Tobey Maguire claims to be Spider-Man to J.J.J.
You do remember we're talking about J Jonah Jameson here, right? He's supposed to be over-the-top. If he wasn't, then he wouldn't really be JJ.

I too see what you're saying. It's a double-edged sword. I think that 95% of the live-action Spider-Man movie fans absolutely adore JK as JJJ - and would probably admit that he is one of the best parts of the Raimi trilogy - but yeah, it might work against their 'reboot-ing-ness'.
That's...actually a pretty awesome idea. I think it'd work best providing JJJ's role (played by Stan Lee) was more cameo-esque, rather than a full-on supporting role.
Actually, I think the opposite of this: the Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace movies are to the standard James Bond canon what Amazing Spiderman is to its original trilogy: completely separate reboots that start at the beginning.
Yet, Judi Dench playing M, an important but not centrally focused character, has not hurt the movie's receptions or separation from the originals. Some people just fit a role. And J.K. Simmons fits J. Jonah Jameson like a glove to the point where its uncanny.
Whatever lets me get more J.K Simmons as J.J.J. I don't care. He'll burn Peter Parker's house down with combustible lemons.
ALL OF MY YES!!!
He was literally THE best thing about that entire trilogy. I would love for him to come back and play Jameson. He played the character so well in the first trilogy, and considering that Jameson's role isn't all that big in Spiderman, it wouldn't be the end of the world if he did come back for the role.
As amusing as that would be, I don't really see that working. I think Stan's better when he does cameos.
I really like Simmons as JJJ and he's IMO the best casting decision for Raimi's trilogy. That being said it'd be weird to see him back in the same role for the reboot. I don't mind not having Peter working at Daily Bugle in the reboot trilogy so they don't have to recast his character, cuz Simmons played him to perfection and I don't want someone else taking over the helm.
