Maybe I was just some fucked up child but I ALWAYS preferred villains to heroes, I mean the villains are just cool they're badass, etc.

Doesn't matter if it was Transformers or DBZ or something, I always thought the bad guys were awesome.

Same here, maybe we're just both fucked up, but I've always thought the bad guys looked cooler.

I always thought that was a misinterpretation of the fact MOM's do not like buying their kids bad guys. My mom would always buy me autobots for bdays and xmas and then it would be up to me to beg for cons when we visited the store through out the year

My mom allways baught me the toys I had wished for, the only time she improvised was when she got me Piranacon, but that was because she knew how much of a sucker I was for the gestalts

There's probably some freakonomics to this. I imagine children might prefer heroes because they're usually designed to be more colorful, friendly and successful. Heroes might also have more character developement than a villian who only appears infrequently.

I always tried to keep them balanced, one bad for every one good. It wasn't always possible, but I aimed for it.

My son is almost 2. Can I tell you, all he watches is Toy Story. His favorite character by FAR is Zerg! He goes around the house laughing like him.

    Second favorite, Lotso Hugging Bear!

    I tried to, but after I had about 6 Autobots and 2 Decepticons I said "**** it."(Not literally. I was 11.)

Same here....yet at times I'd find myself gravitating towards the heroes anyways, though this occurred more often with G.I. Joe.

It might be a vanity or egotistical thing. I always liked characters that either reflected me or what I would want to be. Why would I want to be a bully and pick on the weak? I more appreciate a badass on the side of good than badass with the badguys. I think Luke in Return of the Jedi and Optimus Prime were great role models for me.

Most transformers fans I know love the decepticons. Aside from Starscream (and megs as a toy) I always preferred the autobots. I was always the odd man out.

The good guys need bad guys to fight so we'll always need to have villain toys.
Besides, give it enough time and Hasbro will repaint every bad guy mold into a good guy anyway.

Where was it ever stated that kids didn't like bad guys? If this was the case there would be no Decepticons, Cobra, Darth Vader, Skeletor, Mumm-ra, Shedder...I could go on and on. Some of the best toys/characters in history have been bad guys. If kids didn't like the bad guys then companies wouldn't produce/promote them.

My son loves the baddies, usually use them to act out scenes of mayhem and mass destruction! :D

In the 'good old days' I found the less noble or more flawed characters.

Prime was too much of a boy scout.

I think the idea that bad guys dont sell may come from the lack.of decepticon toys at the tail.end of japanese g1

I know that has been said in the Japanese Market, but i'm not sure about us.

As a kid, I always had a ton of bad guys. They always looked better in my opinion:2c:

I always found them cooler. In Transformers I had more good guys than bad guys, but that was more a reason of the available toys clashing to my ideas of the toys I wanted. When it came to Masters of the Universe, for example, I had more bad guys than heroes.

And as a kid I always hated it, that I had not so much Decepticons, because it made playing very hard. I think I had only one Decepticon and it sucked always. And in addition he was only half of the size than most of my Autobots. The only Autobot I had which was in scale, was Skram. So I could play only with those two toys real battles. Playing with toys that were not in scale was a stupid idea to me, even as a kid.

I can't believe that other children or probably modern children don't like bad guys. It's essential for playing real stories with your toys. I mean, what do you want to play if you only own the good guys? Autobots having a teaparty?

    edit:
I forgot, I had Pretender Starscream, but that was another very tiny robot, compared to my Headmasters, Powermasters and so on...
