It's amazing what the G1 cartoon was allowed to say :)

I was some of my old Rhino sets and heard the words kill, death, dead used. 2 of my favorite lines were:

Blitzwing: Tell me what I want to know or I'll splatter your brains against the wall. I was like whoa lol.

Megatron to Ramjet: If this Autobot quack tries anything shatter his lenses...from the inside.

It's pretty rare to hear such talk in cartoons now a days.

Yeah, they'll use words like "destroy", "annihilate", or "eliminate" as a substitute. Or when one characters is asking if another is dead, we get the "Is he...?" and is then immediately answered.

And let's not forget the 80's toon racial insensitivity (and sometimes outright racism) that wasn't just confined to Transformers. A quote from the GI Joe episode "The Invaders":
Dusty (after speaking to an Arab): "Me and the camel jockey got a lot in common, he loves the dessert same as I do."

Carbombya PC people get all bent out of shape over that one.

I always laughed when Prime said "What do you know, a booby trap that actually catches boobies"

I also love all the implyed swearing on the show. Some people have 'Brass Ball Bearings' & others are going to get stuff shoved up their 'tailpipe or exhaust port'

When I first heard this line, I was pretty shocked. It still somewhat surprises me; just how exactly did they get away with that one?!

Also, it's a brilliant line too! I hope to see it use again some day!

I agree, animation as a whole has changed dramatically. I mean, I'm still trying to figure out how they managed to get some of Rattrap's dialog approved. I'd imagine at least a quarter of his lines wouldn't be allowed today.

I remember when I was playing Final Fantasy X, and I saw one character punch another. Here's the thing though; the punch was shown connecting. "So what?" some might say, but think about it for a moment. When was the last time you saw, in a cartoon, a fully animated punch, in it's entirety, with the punch being a still-shot, or a "character 1 throws arm forward, character 2 is then shown flying backward" shot?

I guess it just goes to show how vastly different the rules are, when it comes to fictional human characters, and robot characters.

I dunno, I was just watching "Clone Wars" today, and did a wild-take when one of the characters shouted "What the hell was that?!"

Yeah clone wars can get pretty brutal, lightsabers through people on screen, and a lot of saucy language :O

Last weeks Brave and the bold had the specter Spoilers

Turn Dr.allo to cheese and had his rats eat him alive

"Huh, a booby trap that actually catches boobies!"

or my personal favorite, when Soundwave says "Look who's talking, Cracker!"

You had a lot of shows that got away with language they really shouldn't have been able to, most probably because the regulation dealt with a list of cursewords that were off limits, but left the rest open to some pretty dark wording.

Oh yeah.... one of the earlier episodes? When the clones are defending a base or something?

In the Clone Wars movie, they said, "Gonna be a damn lot harder to win now." Or something like that.

Two great episodes of two great series.

Though if you think those are bad, DBZ was, in my opinion, worse (mostly referring to Imperfect Cell here). Check out episode 127 (where Cell drinks a guy on screen) or episode 148 or 149 (can't remember which, but it had Cell powering up, complete with the wailing souls of his victims). When you are 9 years old, that stuff is downright scary (probably why Imperect Cell is my favorite villain from the series).

EDIT: Oh yeah, and there was the episode where Buu blew up a guy by going in through his mouth and expanding until he blew up.

A lot of words I hear on TV today, couldn't have been said years ago. Especially on a lot of cop-shows, like bitch, bastard, and whatever.
Who knows, maybe in a few years nobody will care and TV will no longer be censored?

I'll care. I don't want my kids hearing that crap. I don't think it's necessary, and in many instances really lowers my opinion of the iq
of the person using that language.

I've been watching some more Clone Wars today, and yeah, it's like it's getting more and more brutal with each passing episode! A LOT of stabbings and general on-screen death!

That was the sort of stuff they used to do back in the old Spectre comics, when the Comics Code Authority wouldn't let him just *kill* people. He'd do things like turn people into candles and light them, or into glass and shatter them, or into wood and feed them into a sawmill, stuff like that. It winds up being a lot creepier and ironic than just killing them. :)
