I normally don't have the patience to cover old ground, but considering its about ten years since I tried to model a Trypticon, and this year's been a bit of a Transformers 2010 celebration, I figured I'd give it another shot. Its definitely time for a computer upgrade, as I have had countless crashes trying to render out reasonable particle counts. Subsequently, I've had to paint a few environmental elements I was hoping to render. Noticeably, the tail was a bugger to rig, and I made a mess of it. Perhaps I'll look into it again in the future. As I don't have the toy I've had to take inspiration from many sources. Amazingly, I only came across TFW's detailed toy gallery after I'd done modeling.
I think that the Trypticon would look a little better with slightly smaller arms, but that's a great model of him you've got there For the computer problem, I'd recommend you get a Mac Pro, as a great(albeit pricey) solution to the computer problem
The top shot with Cyclonus in it: Unbelievable! I made it me new desktop wallpaper. I'd love see more of your work.
Yeah, its definitely not Tyrannosaur proportions in regards to the fore limbs. Size seems to vary in his portrayals, though often its likely to be exaggerated perspective distortion from mimicking telephoto effects. I've made an alteration to the second pic to see if it makes much of a difference. Still big for a T-rex, but considering the shoulder sockets are so far back they're bordering on useless appendages. I was considering at one stage to mount twin barrel cannons on each shoulder. Possibly the extended forearms are the issue you are noticing. By adding a large rotating mechanism in front of the elbow hinge, they've been somewhat lengthened.
What is that cresting the desert/beach in the second picture? They kind of look like Predator drones or Tomahawk missiles. - Alty
I like your ideas better, a predator boneyard sounds like a great visual! But it was intended to be an old, dead, tall forrest, felled around an impact crater and covered by sand. A few scattered bleached Dinosaur skeletons also lay exposed to possibly indicate the setting as Dinobot Island. Terrain placement was getting pretty difficult by this stage, so it doesn't look as natural as I'd hoped.
i miss city bots this is truly and awesome rendering of this character. once you explained the desert pic (crater) i can see it but was having a hard time getting that on my own still awesome work though
Thanks SH, much appreciated. I wasn't sure I was ever going to finish this one. Thank you all for your feedback. I'm a notoriously slow worker, so it takes me ten times longer to create something half as good as some of the talented artists here.
