The reason Bay presented is a reason why red robots are less than ideal, not a pledge never to include a red robot under any circumstances. Ref: Rampage.

Frankly I don't even care what the real reason is. In G1/Classics, there are WAY too many Autobots who are basically red boxes. It's gotten to the point where I don't want Ironhide and Sideswipe because I already have OP and Inferno. Having one red car and one truck with lots of red among the Autobots in the movie-verse is fine. Nay, great.

 

Ain't most characters designed before named anyway? That's probably why theres so many red robots not being red.

Excuse as usual is just so fans can get a little less rabid, not that ir works but meh.

 

Maybe Bay just decided it was getting really samey and thought "fuck it, I want a red car."

red bleeding on the screen is hard to film because of the rendering process with special effects. My husband does minor special effects (nothing for movies) and showed me how when rendering it can leave a "trail" of sorts, almost kind of like when the character Blur moves. He said with Michael Bay filming the 3rd movie in 3d which requires, different film, different cameras, and a different rendering process could be the reason this won't be a problem for this film.

 

It still baffles me how a movie can have giant fucking robots ripping the Pyramids of Giza apart, transforming from one mode to another with hundreds of tiny shifting parts, tearing a city to pieces, but they can't pull off having red on the screen.

Yeah, there are defintiely lot of red Alternators too. And going back to TF1 where there are only the five Autobots I can see exactly why they would opt for Ironhide being a black truck rather than having two vehicles that are basically big and red. WIth the decepticons they were pretty much limited by the fact that military vehiclesdon't come in a choice of paintwork, but with private and commerical cars, you'd deliberately try to go for maximum variety in colourschemes.
