September '96: I'm a Sophomore in high school, obsessed with playing roller hockey and staring at a Musician's Friend catalog that has a picture of my dream guitar [which I saved up for and bought in early '97]. I've started "transitioning" away from my group of friends who have gotten heavily into smoking weed which is not for me. I've realized that stoners never seem to want to do anything other than smoke weed or talk about smoking weed. I want to keep playing hockey, they want to sit around. On top of that, there is an insufferable amount of drama over who The One Girl in the Group likes or doesn't like. Bores me to death. [Within a few months I would only talk to those people in passing or not talk at all and just give the "'sup" nod]. On a brighter note, I have tickets to see Pearl Jam which in 1996 is about as amazing as winning the lottery or climbing Mt. Everest. Will go see them weeks from now in early October. [I missed only two of their FL shows ever since!]
I love listening to those rave like dance music on the radio and enjoy my newly discovered favourite music Hardcore which I came to through TV advertising for a compilation called Thunderdome
Heh, a couple things I forgot about that I'm reminded of here: We had just got a Musician's Friend in the nearby larger town (45 minutes away). Each time my friends and I went, we were jammin' on the electronic set of Roland drums. My Pearl Jam love was continuing on this year from the release of "Ten" a short time ago. I really was into the Seattle grunge bands, but PJ will always be my favorite. I would finally get to go see them in Nashville a few years later.
I caught PJ on their 1st world tour fuck yeah. I saw metallica the same year with material from the black album n while the vets were coasting u could tell newbie PJs were still full of piss n vinegar.
I was in my first month of college (A-Levels, 16-18), questioning whether or not Maths was the right subject, and spending most of my Computing lessons writing DOS games in Turbo Pascal. I'd also just discovered the internet - I was in a group (part of 'mandatory' extra-curricular activities) that was supposed to see a dozen of us maintain the college's fledging website. Truth be told, we just pissed about on gaming review sites and marvelled at the range of books on Amazon.com.
I was probly at school planing how to get more transformers from other people i had the nack for trading one toy for two
Graduated High School in June, got talked into checking out a Marine recruiter office, sweet talked into joining, and off to Marine Corps Basic Training a few months later. I turned 18 that year...in boot camp.
Just graduated High School and went to college. Didn't get back into TFs until 1997, so this is a year early
Sept of 96 I was starting my 1st semester of College. Playing Tekken 2 that had just came out before I went away to school. We used to have huge Tekken tournaments in college.
