    It could have been worse.

But it could also have been better.

    Nope. ;)

Like I read all your posts. To be honest, I'm not totally sure from your description we've been listening to the same film. You're not watching some dodgy Mexican dub, are you? And jeez, guys. You make it sound like it's Rory Bremner playing the part, and he should have endless voices on tap.

ROTF: so bad even people who liked it would rather talk about something else.

So I presume you enjoy Titanic? Think Phantom Menace is the best Star Wars film?

I don't like Titanic or Menace myself, but if so many people liked 'em they probably ain't bad movies, just not... a 4shroobmaster movie.

This is exactly how I view things.

I enjoyed Titanic, did not like Menace, but that doesn't make them good or bad in my eyes.

it's not difficult to grasp, it's just laughable to behold. Especially with all the lisping.

See, this is what puzzles me about ROTF. When I think a film is good, I talk about the script, the dialogue, the casting, the effects, all the things I think made it great. People who enjoyed ROTF point out that it made a lot of money, that there are worse films, and that they don't like the voice Christian Bale uses as Batman. Somehow, none of this is making me reassess my hardline "whatever I do, never ever watch ROTF" position.

Well that's just an issue I had with those Batman films. I don't really have the time to get into the shedload of issues with the Bayformers movies.

But apparently, when you dislike a movie, you seem to prefer to talk about the people that liked it than actualy why you did not like it, in fact, it seems that all you want is to show that people that liked it didn't really like it or something.

They should just hire Kevin Conroy to voice over all his Batman scenes. I don't see how it could possibly go wrong...for me.

I'm sorry but I lol'd hard. If anyone deserves to "win" a thread it is you, that sums up how I feel about his batman voice. Not terrible because he has to desguise it but still pretty hilarious. What makes it worse is he used that same voice in Terminator Salvation.

Fail. I haven't seen ROTF, therefore I neither like or dislike it. As I've said, I'm interested in the way people who liked the movie seem to prefer talking about films that were worse than talking about what was good. I've never defended a movie I liked by saying "It's better than Plan 9 From Outer Space." If I were to say such a thing, I'd have to accept that the movie in question was awful. A lot of people who post this kind of thing are acting in the way I would expect people to react when they're attempting to support an untenable position: divert attention away from the matter at hand and discuss other things.

See, this is why I love you, Sledge.

There are, approximately, seven and a half squillion movies in existence. Including my home-made vampire movie from when I was 6, during the making of which I burst into tears, because my only character died in his first scene. It was an awful, awful movie. It was worse than ROTF (speaking from a critical perspective only; it was infinitely more entertaining), but that doesn't make ROTF a better movie in any way.

Using worse films as an indicator of quality for ROTF is like saying Stalin was a good dictator, because he wasn't Hitler.

In conclusion, the argument is pointless. Anything can be worse, but somethings aspire to be better.

Why are you interested in that anyway? You're writing a book on internet people psychology or something? What do you win with pulling legs?

Yet, I do agree that some individuals have been rather dodgy about subject, they probably actualy do care about critics say deep inside and want to convince themselves that it was good or something (because, you know, enjoying it yourself is meaningless unless you can brag on the internet that it was good!)

    I liked Titanic and Phantom.

I just didn't like Leo, Kate, Anakin, or Jar-Jar. I'm the same way with pretty much every movie Tom Cruise has ever done. I like the movie, just not him.
