Wait, isn't he the guy praised for putting a lot of effort into patching up the wrecked continuity of the movie comics?

From what I have heard about the movie Comics he should be awesome. If he can make the movie comics work then I have a lot of confidence in IDW now.

    Yes. Yes he is.

He's singlehandedly tied EVERYTHING together. And not just tied it all together (anyone can do that), but done it WELL.

Honestly, him and James Roberts were my shortlist for editor, and Roberts was probably unworkable due to geography.

Barber though will be awesome because if the movie comics show anything, not ONLY is he a continuity buff (like myself), but he's good at FIXING continuity issues.

You dang right he is! This is the best thing to happen to IDW Transformers in a long, long time.

Yeah, he did make them awesome.

He, in one fell swoop, managed to tie Sentinel's Space Bridge pillars into both the one built in Reign of Starscream AND into resolving that whole sarcophagus issue with The Fallen.

Never mind giving Alice the Pretender a lot of character development and use, as well as great use of Soundwave in resolving the inconsistencies between Megatron's master plans.

If you want to get an idea of how this guy thinks/works, buy the Sector Seven mini. Transformers-lite stories, yes, but good ones. And each issue had a page of commentary explaining how different stuff tied in to both prior movie fiction AND historical persons/places/events (this is all in the TPB as well).

That's cool... thanks for the recommendation... I just don't dig the movies very much, so I've never looked at the comics- even the ones Furman worked on.

The article at IDW said he was an editor at Marvel... but he edited stuff I don't read (Ultimates, Dark Tower) so I really know very little of the guy other than his movie work and attention to detail on the continuity side (how did the continuity get so screwed up so fast?) seems well-received.

So it sounds like this cat is a good choice.

    Honestly, I can't get excited.
History has shown that IDW will replace him in 14 months.

Sounds like a solid choice. I'm not terribly excited about where IDW's TF series is heading in the near future, but at least it seems like it's in good hands.

Okay this is awesome. John freaking rules and he managed to fix Bay's clusterfuck. I kind of feel like I'll finally be able to be excited for TF comics again.

He even managed to reconcile the Titan UK stories that used Dune Runner and the others by showing them as a group at NEST headquarters.

Encouraging news to say the least. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with the Transformers mainline comics.
