So, Unicron. Turner of The Fallen, father of Galvatron, and... his race of minions known as "heralds". But, is it Unicron who started the Decepticons, by creating The Fallen...?

    Nuh-uh.

The Fallen isn't a Decepticon, either.

In Exodus, Megatron was inspired by the Fallen. In the movie-verse, he was guided by him. However, in both continuities, Megatron himself is the actual founder of the Decepticon movement.

Unicron is the enemy of all Transformers, Autobot or Decepticon. Sure, he often chooses some of them (usually Decepticons) to be his heralds, but his ultimate goals are to consume them all.

Also, Unicron didn't create the Fallen. Primus did.

No, Unicron is a multi-dimensional entity and a god, the petty war between Primus' children means nothing to him, so there for he is not a Decepticon.

The Quints are a race, not a faction.

The Decepticons are a faction of a race related to Unicron purely through his "brother" Primus creating them. Unicron's path and motives are unrelated from those of the Decepticons. He only uses them as pawns, and shares not their original goals.

Also, Unicron did not create the Fallen, Primus did. The Fallen, however, fell to evil with persuasion from Unicron, at least in the Dreamwave continuity.

Megatron, in a few continuities, was inspired by, a follower of, or even a student of the Fallen. Megatron founded the Decepticons from a desire to rally against those that opressed them.

Unicron simply desires to eat. He wants to destroy and consume, nothing more. If the Decepticons will help him in his quest, he will use them as pawns, and corrupt them to his cause, where they are no longer Decepticons but rather Blendtrons, "Unicrons", Heralds, or members of any number of Unicron created factions. He might even use an Autobot as a pawn if the need allowed.

Thusly, Unicron is only loosely connected to the Decepticons. He is not one himself because he does not follow Megatron or the Fallen or any founders of the faction itself. Unicron, being the primordial evil of the Transformers universe, may confuse people into believing he himself is a Decepticon, but he follows noone, and didn't help in the founding of the Decepticons.

Someone needs to tell Hasbro this. They keep packaging him as a Decepticon.

By all accounts, Unicron and Primus can be best described as incarnations of parts of creation itself - be they remaining members of a race older than the current universe, or direct products of the very force that created the universe itself.

Regardless of who created them, they ultimately represent the perfect order (or balance), and endless chaos and destruction. They are the manifestation of these parts of the cosmic machinery.

For the sake of selling toys, it makes sense to label him a "bad guy" rather than a "good guy" doesn't it? Besides, I've never seen the toys actually have Decepticon logos on him. Armada and Energon weren't faction branded on the box either, so really it's only Cybertron and Universe that were. You could make the argument on Cybertron that the packaging was a generic Deluxe packaging and there wasn't the incentive to change it up for one toy, though I can't think why Universe had the Decepticon symbol.

Unicron is his own faction somehow. He's more like Galactus although he's been created by some apelike creature. Some things just need to be left in myst.

    Unicron was built by Primacon.
