On the Reelz channel they have a weekly show called The Countdown
this past week the subject was the top 11 Alien Invasion movies and it went like this

    11) MArs Attacks
    10) Signs
    9) Invasion onf the Body Snatchers (1978)
    8) Ballte Los Angeles
    7) Transformers

Now I don't know what it is but I've never considered Transfoemrs an alien invasion movie
I mean techincially speaking it is I mean they are aliens and they invaded earth, I don't know what do you think?

Yes, there's always been an "alien invasion" element to it, even from the very beginning.

Yes. It is only unique in the regard that part of the Aliens help us fend off the others.

    Aernaroth nailed it, yet again.

Simply put, yes, Transformers definitely has an "alien invasion" aspect to it. Obviously the extent to which that element shows depends on what media you're looking at. And really, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. Transformers is the prefect vehicle to include an "alien invasion" aspect to it, because when you boil it down, that's a pretty good description of what Transformers is about. The idea has sort of always been there, but without really calling attention to the INVASION aspect of it. Alien visitors come to Earth, invade, fight, steal resources, etc.. Cybertron played with the idea, the movies obviously did as well. I'm sure if a live-action Transformers movie was made in the 1950's it would've been even more of an "alien invasion" flick.

Yeah, I'd say so. Especially the G1 plotline, the Decepticons were evil aliens who invaded to steal the resources.

No, not really. They are aliens, but it was not an invasion. In most versions of Transformers they end up on Earth by accident. Even after they wake up (or whatever) neither side is invading. The Decepticons have no interest in humans or our world.... just our energy resourses or something like the Allspark.

The only example I can think of that breaks that trend is in Bay's 3rd movie..... where they invade and take over a city with the intent of making humans their slaves to rebuild Cybertron.

    Yes.

An Alien is someone not from our planet. Therefore yes.

I don't know about black and white, but I for one would love to see a Cold War paranoia fuel styled Transformers. :D

Yeah, always at least part invasion flick.

Thought I had read somewhere that early early early treatments for the first Transformers film were all about humans versus the evil transforming alien robots, until Hasbro intervened to make sure some of the robots were good guys.

The first and second films have alien invasion elements to them, but DOTM plays it as straight as can be with the invasion of Chicago.

The dictionary definition is foreign...Still correct though, as if they're not from Earth, they're foreign, or "alien."
Why am I posting something you already know? I don't know, you tell me, because I don't know, and you don't either.

To answer the question the thread asks though, yes, to a certain extent.

Well specifically the movie they named was the 2007 Transformers movie. They really didn't "invade" us, they wanted the cube and get out, I would say DOTm is more of an invasion movie as they wanted to come in and wipe us out.

I guess I compare it to the other movies on the list.
I listed four up there, let's see if I can remember all of them:

    11) Mars Attacks
    10) Signs
    9) Invasion of the Body Snatchers - 1978
    8) Battle Los Angeles
    7) Transformers - 2007
    6)
    5) War of the Worlds - The Tom Cruise one
    4) District 9
    3) Men in Black
    2) Close Encounters of the Third Kind
    1) Independance Day

ok so I can't remember number 6, but I was surprised some movies like Aliens or Predator wasn't on there. SOmeone said ET but on, it wasn't on the countdown and it wasn't an invasion.
So i guess compared to these other movies I wouldn't consider 2007 Transformers an Alien Invasion movie
