I bought this today at Goodwill. I'm not sure if any parts are missing.

BTW, I'm using him as a "Classics Wheeljack"

Because it was a direct continuation of Armada, storywise, where a completely different Wheeljack was quite prominent.

That, and apart from legacy usage, there was this prevailing mentality at the time that "Wheeljack" sounded more like a Decepticon name, due to the association with car-jacking or such.

Oops, and yes, that Downshift looks to be complete. Spoiler, two guns, and one missile, check.

Thanks! Best $1.00 I ever spent at Goodwill!

Same here, especially since Wheeljack is my favorite Autobot.

I added the symbol. I felt it gave the toy more of a G1 feel.

Actually the Wheeljack in Armada didn't have everything to do with it. Aaron Archer thought 'Wheeljack' sounded like a bad guy name (something about sounding too close to 'carjack'). It's a pretty idiotic excuse IMO but oh well...no one has to call it by the name on the package.

IIRC, there was also a third issue at play here. Legal had already gone ahead and trademarked "Downshift", before the figure was fully designed. Eventually, the designers came up with a Wheeljack homage, but the figure was still slotted in as Downshift. Due to the other aforementioned reasons, the name stuck.

    :lol  that's awesome :lol

I think they will eventually. They released Alternators Wheeljack after Energon Downshift so I'm sure the name would be used again for that blatant an homage.

That makes a lot of sense, never thought of that!
