I'm not sure about the box, but I think all the bots that came boxed back in the day had styrofoam around them and not a plastic bubble.

no not all the bots came in foam. All the dinobots are in inserts/bubbles.

Not all did. In the US, mostly the larger ones did. None of the Dinobots did, they all had the plastic bubbles inside the box.

Only Japanese/Takara Dinobots came with foams. US version were all packed in bubbles/inserts. :)

Here's a guide on highendtfs.com for IDing fake Swoops by the packaging:
    http://highendtfs.com/images/idguide/swoopidguide.jpg

Given that, the box & insert are definitely fakes.

Also, since fixing rubsign difference is easy on a loose figure, the figure looks to be in great shape and the beak is perfectly clear without the light yellow hue all Swoops (at least that I've seen) develop, I'd say there's strong indication the figure is a KO as well.

Someone got scammed...but not as bad as a person that falls for this one: Transformers Dinobot 1984 Swoop MISB Gen1 great shape - eBay (item 320462665013 end time Dec-15-09 09:42:50 PST)

so your sure the box and foam are fake? i looked at that guide. I did not see the grid line blending in or the the wider column in the spot shown...

I'm with nvidia. It's a really bad photo for figuring this out, but the fat column doesn't seem to be there, and none of the other tells are definitely there. Plus the rubsign is on the correct side. It's probably real IMHO.

I trust Robotic Planets judgement so ill take his words its a fake and honestly with the KO Dinobots out we are likely to see alot more KO swoops solds as genuine G1s as its a fairly well known fact Swoop is the most valuable of the dinobots

I'll admit I'm not 100% certain on the box. It is indeed a bad pic, but IMO it looks like the gray border is too thick.

Also, I've attached the 2nd pic below, which clearly shows the perforated bubble, indicative of a KO.

I've seen sellers/collectors move the sticker to the correct wing, so outside of a MISB example, I don't trust that sign. Having the figure in hand would be the only way to really see if it's a KO.

I got an answer from the seller:

To answer your question as accurately as possible here are the replies to the six answers.
1 The rub sign is on the correct wing.
2 The grey border is not to thick.
3 The character artwork does run right up to the edge
4 The grey grid does not blend in with the red
5 There are vertical perforations on the card.
6 All the grid columns are the same size

I am the original owner of this transformer. I bought this piece in 1984 from toys R us in kalamazoo, mi. Part of the orange price tag is still on the bottom of the box. According to highendtfs.com the counterfeits were produced in 2005 and later.

Sounds like a legit box, but that bubble & insert are from the counterfeit, given the perforations. If you bought this auction, use this guide, http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-feedback/128432-ko-swoop-review-comparison.html, comparing loose legit and KO figures.

People lying about these things is all too common, especially the classic "I've owned this since I was a kid".

Guess its safer to get Takara version instead, easier to tell on the Japanese box, foam & everything else.

And the ultimatum: At least it hasn't been KO'ed...yet. :lol

    additional info from the seller:

This is just additional info in regards to your earlier question. There are additional postings on the website you gave me from other people who bought swoop back in 1984 and the backer card was perforated and also the picture of the figure goes all the way to the edge.

also if you compare to this swoop to another one you can also see the perforations on the card like he said:

G1 Transformers Dinobot Swoop MISB, Sealed - eBay (item 230398688067 end time Jan-10-10 21:54:51 PST)

so maybe it is supposed to have these perforations in those spots?

maybe I should ask him if he still has the original receipt?

    Ebay:

I do believe the only ones from 1985(including the rereleases from 84) that did have strofoam that had a cellophane window was Prime, Soundwave, Megatron, Jetfire, Shockwave, the Giftset combiners, and not sure about Roadbuster. The one way I remeber them saying to tell if the bot is fake is by the wing tips, but these pics don't help

Yeah, I've been meaning to change that guide so that the "perforation" thing isn't listed there. The seller is right that someone pointed out to me in one of the comments that it isn't accurate.

Anyway, good for the seller figuring that out :)

So some legit Swoops do have the perforated backing? I've only seen ones without it prior to the auction above. It doesn't help either that doufaceb was selling KOs on eBay with false descriptions for years until earlier this year (still sells the KO stickers though). Are they any other examples of this legit version? AFA'd?

    I got the swoop today.

    It says:

    hasbro 1980-1984
    Takaro Co ltd
    1980 -1984
    Macau

all on the right wing. also has the rub sticker.
