Obviously the real reason BB doesn't speak In Prime is because he doesn't speak in the vastly popular live action movies.

I remember reading somewhere that Prime was in the same continuity as the Exodus novel.

That said, is there an in-story reason for his communicating only in beeps? I don't remember one from the pilot.

At the same time, is there an explicit reason why Raf can understand him?

I kind of remember that being pretty much glossed over in the pilot mini...

Not yet, maybe the writers will touch on that in a later episode.

The Writers specified that an explanation about BB's lack of voice will be given along the series, reportedly, that will be a major storyarc for him.

So expect an arch-enemy that destroyed his throat or something, probably Barricade.

BB's voice is supposed to be right at the start of the second season.

The arc explaining how he lost his voice will be right at the start of season 2. Was my comment confusing?:inquisiti ve:

Also it's likely that it'll be the same way he lost it in Exodus, spoiler:

    Megatron smashes his vocal processor

It sounded like you said his voice would be fixed by season 2. I read "right" as "fixed". My bad!

They actually confirmed that, in an answer to a question asked by TFW:

He doesn't not talk, he just doesn't speak English. He has a voice and people understand him.

In one of the interviews I think jeff kline said that they were going to explain how he lost his voice. Plus I think he also said hes getting his voice back.

Really? Well that's interesting. I wonder if that means we'll get flashbacks to Cybertron in early season 2. Hopefully this means we'll get a bunch of character models created that can be introduced in future storylines. Who all is on that shuttle that leaves at the end of Exodus? I don't remember.

Something to note. His lines are apparently in the show's script. They just don't have anybody voicing him. This is probably why he seems to actually be speaking another language instead of just making random sounds.

They said the arc explaining things will be first thing in season 2. However I don't know if they confirmed he'd get it back.

I do feel silent BB is kinda lame by this point. It was fun for the first movie but got old in the later two. I understand the choice to use it for Prime, but totally unnecessary.

I hope that when they explain his voice, they also explain how he currently communicates and the reason why Raf can magically understand him.

Maybe he has the Cybertronian equivalent of autism. And Raf understands Bee because Raf has Asperger's.

I'm dead serious, by the way.

Couldn't Raf understanding him be as simple as BB speaking morse code? That's honestly what it sounds like to me.

Watching the show, they've actually done a great job with his voice, IMO. As was said, his lines are written, but they don't have a voice actor for him, and so they try and "translate" his words into the beeps and tones that he uses. The result is actually somewhat understandable once you're used to it.
