I just got a G1 Apeface, which I'm really happy about. The downside is that his robot mode "backpack" keeps falling down. Is this common? Am I simply mistransforming him? Is there a fix? Any help would be appreciated.

There's 1 or 2 screws which hold down a plastic tab should keep the backpack up. Remove the outter screws to go to these 1 or 2 important ones and tighten it/them. It's possible that they're stripped and need to be replaced with wider ones.

Could you describe a little more about the tab that should be holding the backpack up?

I pulled mine out to get a better look, and it's more than just a tab. It's that big pink piece on the underside of the backpack which is up against a piece of plastic on the body of identical color. Tighten the one on the backpack side and you should be good.

Hmmm. I can see the screw you're talking about, and it's definitely loose. I'm having real trouble getting at it, though. I tried removing all the screws on the underside of the "nose" of the plane. While the black and white halves will partially seperate, I can't see to seperate them enough to get at the screw into the pink tab. Something is stopping me from simply removing the white half, but I can't tell what. Again, any assistance would be appreciated.

I took another look at mine and just remembered, you'll have to push out that big pin that holds the backpack, canopy and body together with something like a punch or a nail.

Correct, three screws in addition to the hinge pin, that will all have to be removed to access the screw you want to tighten.

Not too bad. Just get it started with a nail or punch then pull it the out with some pliers. Usually these pins only want to come out on one side so it might take a little fiddling

Yeah I didn't want to look ungrateful or needy but pics would definitely be appreciated before I start taking tools to a G1. :)

Ah, Apeface, the best Transformers name of the whole franchise.

I have this problem with mine. Since I'm not a big customizer, I didn't do anything about it. It doesn't really bother me, actually. But yeah, I would do what the others are saying.

I decided to just man up and go for it. It's remarkably easy. Don't forget to take the canopy off after you get the pin off. Also, I ended up only tightening the internal screw about 3/4 of a turn and it made ALL the difference. Like night and day. Don't be afraid to give this a shot, guys!

I had the same problem with mine, did what you said, and it worked perfectly. A few more testimonials and you can make an infomerical.

Yep, I did this a while back. In fact, when I sold my spare Apeface on eBay, I took pictures showing the backpack staying up and advertised the fact it does ( since most fall down ) and it was the first auction to sell. Some guy hit "Buy it Now".

replacement parts are all that work for him, it's a thin piece of metal shaped like so:
_____--______ when it happens, it kinks it, you can try to straighten it, but it usually breaks, taking them out completely works somewhat

Works a treat, and getting the pin out was not as hard as I feared. For future reference, the pin on my Apeface came out easily to the right, when looking at the cockpit from above.
    Thanks for the help!
