i seen the whole series but people say the rebirth episoes was not really a season 4 cause it was so short it did not have enough episodes to make it a season. What do you guys think

Short or not Rebirth is the only season 4 we have unless you migrate over to Headmasters.

What did I tell you about making new threads every time you had a question? =P

But yeah, "Season 4" is the term usually applied to the Rebirth mini-series, which was just a single 3 (?) part episode. They call it season 4 because it came on after season 3 was completely done.

TECHNICALLY "the Rebirt"h really isint a "season 4".

And I say TECHNICALLY because it has been dubbed season 4 by the fans.

"The Rebirth" wasnt intended to be a 4th season when it was produced.
It was a "PILOT" for a new series staring the Headmasters and Targetmasters..

Wait, what? That's the first time I've heard that...

And it's not just a fan term. The last Rhino DVD is called "Season 3 part 2 and Season 4"...

    I'm surprised.

Its been mentioned here before......on other threads.

Anyway when I worked at Marvel I found lots of files on the topic...........which I could have coppied some:mad

Well I ment "originally" called season 4v by fans.

It was adopted for the DVD/VHS releases.

Sometimes we fans have a little more pull than we give ourselves credit for I guess.

    Much like the term "Seeker".

According to the interviews on said DVD Rebirth was supposed to be a 5 parter, then 4, then 3.

I believe a new character is introduced every 20 seconds or something like that.

No it wasn't. Interest in Transformers was beginning to wane at the time (mainly because of other newer and more popular shows coming out such as TMNT) so they produced a three part series to advertise the toys. They would not have wanted to do another full series.

    Yes it was.

Althou your right about one thing.

TF's had already lost much of its popularity among the kids.As a matter of fact, as a cartoon, Transformers was already canceled in all of its markets.

But Hasbro wasnt ready to give up.

Takara and Hasbro already had the toyline planed out for an other 3 years and they still wanted a cartoon on the air.

Most of the networks that were buying the show said they werent interested in buying an other season of "Transformers".

So Hasbro/Marvel/Sunbo had the idea to make a 5 part pilot for a new series hopeing to recapture the magic it had with the first pilot.

The 5 part pilot got hit with budget problems when only a fraction of the networks and markets bought into the idea of a new series so it was reduced to a 3 part mini pilot.

Sunbo/Marvel had already ordered for half a season of story drafts and story boards to be made.

Yes, the Rebirth episodes were a part of Season 4, but at that time G1's popularity had dwindled down -- fans pinpoint the blame on Optimus Prime's death in the 1986 movie for this decline -- and so it got canceled before we got any more episodes.

Though I believe the Transformers: Ultimate Guide says that the Rebirth episodes were an extension of the 3rd season...

Its only a 4th season "retroactively" speaking..

The cartoon was already offical canceled in most markets before they brought Prime back.

I remember David Wise saying a few times that he had it as a 5 parter but then had to get it down to 3 parts. So he introduced a character and then whoosh, onto another one. 11 new headmasters and their heads, 6 new targetmasters and their weapons plus 3weapons for rod, blurr, kup, plus 5 throttlebots, 4 clones, punch/counterpunch= 48 characters, plus older characters when compared to 66 min of animation that does not leave much room for character development.

Make sense being that I recall the first time I saw the Rebirth televised it was right before the Christmas season and they aired all 3 episodes in a row the afternoon of Black Friday.

Did a little research and found the original air date was Nov 9-11 1987. So probably what I remember seeing was a repeat but I know it was black Friday because I remember going later that day to pick out my gifts. Happy days:)
