This is something I've wondered about for ages. Do all transformers with faceplates have mouths under there, or not? Take G1 Optimus Prime...as a kid, I assumed the faceplate WAS his face, so if it got ripped off there would be nothing but circuits and wires underneath. This would apply to other bots like Soundwave and Wheeljack too. Now, the more recent versions of Op all have a normal face with the faceplate as an optional battlemask. Even IDW has drawn G1 Optimus with a mouth under there of late (though bots like Ironfist show no indication of having one). And Prime's version of Wheeljack has a normal face with a retractable battlemask as well. So, what do you think? Did G1 Optimus or Soundwave have a mouth? Are faceplates always just a piece of battle armor, or can they be part of a TF's anatomy? Could the presence or absence of a faceplate outside of battle have any social meaning?
