Is the RiD acronym throwing off anyone else?

So I haven't been paying super close attention to Transformers lately, due in large part to total apathy towards Prime and the movies. The Prime Cyberverse toys have really piqued my interest, though, and I've been looking back into the toy forum a lot more. Every time I do, though, the alternate name for the Prime line really throws me off.

See, I read the acronym "RiD" and I immediately think this:

The line from 2000-1 that got me back into Transformers in the first place. Is this just me? Am I the only one that can't wrap my head around a separate and completely different RiD line? Or does anyone else out there think that the Prime line should be called something else to differentiate the two?

Sorry if this has been brought up before.

I don't understand it either. What was the point of adding "Robots in Disguise" instead of just using "Transformers Prime" for the toyline?

I would have preferred they go with Transformers prime: More, Much More than Meets the Eye!

Since thats the retro vibe their trying to attain from the robots in disguise phrase.

Well I've noticed as I post on the subject I conciously type Prime robots in disguise. Instead of of just the acronym RID because that line from 2000 is what I think of.

I'm just kind of surprised that a fandom that can come up with "CHUGURTS" can't think of anything else to call a toyline that isn't a pre-existing line's name.

Yes. I wasn't following the packaging, any news on the figures, the show (don't know if it is used in the show, etc, and was wondering what the hell people were talking about when they started referring to rid toys that were coming out. Guess I should have jumped on the bandwagon earlier.

I prefer to use PRID to refer to this line.

    I'm with ya.
It is what it is tho. I'm not buying too much from it- if any- so they could call it GoBots and it wouldn't mean much else to me.

Robots in Disguise and More than Meets the Day are all staples of the Transformers brand, but I agree that referring to select Prime figures as RID is confusing when you consider there was an entire toyline and mythos under the RID label. I would just call the entire line Prime and simply use FE (First Edition) as a way to differentiate early releases from the rest of the line.

While that would seem to make sense (it's the name of the show, why isn't it the name of the toyline, like every series before it?), I can see that still being confusing, particularly to non-fans. Imagine a 7-year-old trying to explain to his mom that he wants "the Prime from Prime." That name would be confusing mostly to non-fans (and it was a bad idea for a name to begin with imo), while the RID name is confusing mostly to fans, either name wouldn't affect the other side

This 100% IMO. You don't know how many times while looking for the FE Prime toys I spoke to a toy department rep at TRU and was told "Oh yes, we have Transformers Prime" only to be taken to some version of DotM Optimus.

And unless season two of the series goes deep into the legend of the 13 or something, I also agree naming the line/show Transformers Prime was a bad idea in the first place because of this very issue.
