There was an interesting discussion going on in the Botcon thread in the news forum.

Just like the title reads. Is Classics dead? At this time last year we were seeing several new molds. (I call the entire line "Classics" which includes all of the re-imagined G1 characters across several different sublines.)

This year several conventions have passed and we got nothing, zero, ZILCH.

    No new molds.

No previews of the awesome retools we've seen on pretty much ever instruction booklet.

What do you think? Is everyone's (or almost everyone's) favorite line dead?

It's always dead. It's been dead since 2006/7.
It just keeps coming back under a different name.

    Or something to that effect.

To CHUG, or not to CHUG; that is the question (and debate).

I knew someone would post this. Please do not turn this thread into a CHUG debate.

This is my thread so when I refer to "Classics" it covers all of the sublines in which the re-imagined G1 characters have been released in.

As a sidenote, I sure hope those last two Generations retool/repaints don't become discount store fodder. But, they most likely will.

I don't think its dead. The CHUG line always seems to go dormant during movie time, and then ramps up pretty quickly. And really, we got A LOT of figures in the past 12 months, especially many fan favorite characters finally. I'd expect to get more next year. Even with Prime toys getting ramped up, I don't think the cast on that show is large enough yet (or will ever be) to completely dominate the store shelves and push out CHUG.

Honestly, (at least to me) the real question is what the hell happened with the movie line? It felt like RotF was on shelves forever and kept getting new figures and releases all the time. And yet, DotM seems to have really just sort of came and went.

The Generations line will continue with your favorite overlooked characters, as soon as Hasbro is done planning the 57th version of movie Deluxe Bumblebee.

No. Hasbro don't want to release Classics so they can focus on Movie stuff.

As long as the weekly 'Why aren't there new Classics molds coming NOW' thread exists it will never be dead.

    06-07 Classics.

    08-09 Universe.

    10-11 Generations.

    See a pattern?

Hasbro specifically said the line is not dead, and that they'll reveal plans in due course.

The movie lines are getting old and stale. Fans and children are getting sick of the same old movie characters flooding toy aisles.

ROTF was partially to blame for that IMO. It really got people sick and tired of looking at movie Bumblebee and Prime.

Consumers responded with their wallets....and decided not to open them for the DOTM line.

Retailers saw how long ROTF lingered and didn't order as much DOTM product as a result.

I vote we change it to "CHUGSTORM" so we never have to add any new acronym parts to it.

Classics? Yes, that line has been dead for quite some time now. Generations? No, not yet. According to shadow the generations line will be continuing with repaints, new molds, and will even cover the FoC toys coming out.

It seems that you are saying the dotm didn't sell well. Do you have proof? I've seen it fly off the shelves here even before the coupons. I'm sure that varies from area to area however. Plus there is the follow up line coming so the movie figures will continue.

I'm sure hasbro wants to scale down a bit so they can push their new mainline as well.

There is nothing wrong with calling the whole group Classics, as well.

Same here! I keep hoping to see them hanging in Target one day. Love seeing new figures out especially the ones that fit the Classic style.
