I was wondering if Takara was allowed to release Hasbro exclusives?

For instance the Botcon seekers, Alternators Nemesis Prime (not the Wonderfest Convoy), the upcoming Alternators Rodimus or the classic coloured MP Screamer, could they ever be released in Japan?

Or do they respect the exclusivity of the item and choose not to make it?

    Thank you in advance!

I should rephrase my question, not necessarily those figures specifically, just in general. Say if Hasbro released an SDCC green reissue Soundwave limited to 1000 pieces, would Takara be able to release the same figure in Japan if there was a Market for it?

The character Nemesis Prime = Black Convoy in Japan, so Alt Nemesis Prime is unlikely. Same character twice, see, with similar deco.

Alt Rodimus was released first as KP Rodimus in Japan, it's just got a slightly different deco, so unlikely. Again same character twice, with similar deco.

Botcon Seekers - that would still undermine the extreme exclusivity.

G1 coloured MP Starscream, possible if Takara thought there was a market.

Oh is there another thread about this? I forgot to even check.

I was just curious about how this part of their relationship works. I am thinking they scratch each others backs.

No, he's referring to the whole Botcon Seekers at retail pipe-dream thing.

IMO? Yeah, I think so if its just for the Japanese market but it seems Takara isn't interested in the Classics line.

There have been a few cases of Hasbro STORE exclusives being issued as things like USA Editions by Takara. However, Takara's exclusives have always been off limits "as-is" to Hasbro, which is why you see slight color changes when Hasbro wants to do something like Excellion in Cybertron. The convention exclusives, however, are most definitely off limits to Takara in return. Otherwise, I am sure we would have seen them done by now. The contracts that protect the exclusivity of these figures are rather strong pieces of writing.

Actually its hard to say because Takara never released TF Classics...I got a feeling Takara can get away with it with slight colour changes like "Excellion".

Well, they can pretty much release whatever they'd like...exclusivity is not a legal term, it's just a decision Hasbro made. Which they or takara can change their minds about whenever if they want.

In the cases of certain "exclusives," this may well be the case. But I'm willing to bet serious money that the contract Hasbro signed with FP has some very strong legal terms telling everybody (including Takara) that no one else can ever do the same toys that FP did for a convention.

Universe Nemesis Prime, a Target exclusive in the USA, was released as a Jusco exclusive "USA Edition" in Japan.

Actually, I believe that whole "we can release whatever we want, but hasbro isn't allowed to release our exclusives" thing isn't really in effect anymore, since the Takara/Tomy merger. I got the impression that they're far more willing to be a team player, as opposed to doing everything their way. At least that's how it seems to me.

This may be. We'll sort of have to wait and see what happens next time they toss out a reasonably current-mold/current line exclusive that we start clamoring for, neh?

There have been Transformer convention exclusives for many many years. If any of them were ever released by Takara, then i can't remember which ones.
