I want to know this because in some scenes of Transformers 3 when the screen went near his sword it would make a mechanical humming sound.

It makes that sound when he swings it. Probably would have something to do with his blade being double-sided as air passes across both ends.

Like all the other weapons, it transforms. The same thing could be said about his shield and how it morphs into his body when in vehicle mode.

It has moving parts when it slides in and out, ergo yes, it is mechanical.

His sword has one of the best sound effects IMO. Completely badass.

We should just merge all threads like these asking the simplest questions.

Probably. It's gotta fold up somehow. It's not an energy weapon but it's not just a big metal plank.

*mental notes to listen for these sounds on next movie viewing*

I would imagine that it is indeed not just a slab of metal like a human would make and wield, if that's what you're asking. Probably has some special heat like OP's. Or high frequency vibrations or the like to make cutting through things require less effort. (Also would explain the "humming")

Of course, there's no way to know what the CGI'ers intended for certain... (Where you at with the DOTM movie guide, Hasbro?? :(  )
