the decepticon from revenge of thefallen the microscope guy with the spider legs

is it just me or does the guy come across in attitude and personality and german accent as being one of them amoral ruthless nazi scientists types?

as a guy who happens to be half german on my fathers side of the family i dont take offense on the matter but this seriously creeps me out

to be honest i loved blitswings character for the whole colenel clink type of guy he was at times in transformers animated and the guy was hilariouse as a triple changer with 3 fueding multiple personalities

but scalpel seriously gives me the creeps yeesh

Also, why on Earth would it creep you out?

But why? It's a trope that has been used over and over again. Also, there is a lot of evidence that the Nazi's were up to some pretty sick stuff during that time, so why not draw upon that when creating a mad scientist character?

Like I said, I'm of German decent and it doesn't bother me at all.

He's based on you're typical creepy mad foreign doctor. (which there have been many famous and imfamous examples in movies) Not really a "Nazi doctor" or Nazi anything.

I don't think he was specifically meant to be the nazi-doctor type who tries horrible stuff on his victims.

I think he was 'just' a robotic version of the 'evil doctor' cliché, which 99% talk with a German accent. Cos that's what evil doctors do, yo! To be honest, it could very well be that this trope hails back to the nazi doctors like Mengele, but I'm not too sure. Maybe that's just how it always has been in early horror movies and stuff?

    Anyway, it's awesome.

Actually, both SPLIT LIP and Digilaut raise good points. Scalpal himself is not a Nazi, but the trope (German mad scientist) hails back to the Nazis.

Yes, i think that's what they were going for... but why would that "creep you out"? If he was an Autobot, then I could understand... but he was erm, one of the bad guys.

Also, German doesn't necessarily equal Nazi either   Like I said, I DO feel that that's what they were going for (the Joseph Mengela angle), but too many people seem to blur that line too often as well. Could have easily just been a bot vit ze german aczent!

I'd say making some robot thing going up Sam's mouth, out his nose and mouth, and no doubt over-working Sam's gag reflex is pretty damn creepy. And disgusting, no question about that.

    But that's what was intended.

I think it's good if you found him creepy. I found him hilariously cute. "VEE MUST HALVE ZE BRAIN ON ZE TABBEL! CHOP CHOP!" All the while swinging his teeny little arms around. Adorable. And his little glasses.

That may have been what they were aiming for. However, a nice formula to remember: Evil + Exotic Accent =/= Nazi.

I like how you victimized yourself while making a potentially offensive statement. Something about it screams overkill.

Not to mention he was gonna cut open sam's skull while he was still alive. I think they were aiming for a more Hannibal lectar. The accent they gave him made him come off as a nazi doctor though.

Personally I think Scalpel's German-ness happened by accident; The voice actor probably decided "screw it, I'll do this in a German accent" and went along with it. He probably already was the sadistic type before anyone saw ROTF; the German shtick could have been a, for lack of a better word, coincidence.

    Yeah, Blitzwing kicked ass.
