All of them wear helmets, if you want to call them that, save for the smaller ones like Frenzy, Lazorbeak or Ravage.

I don't think it's a helmet, I think it's more like his outer skull Because once
Megatron nocked it off of sentinel's head the wires in his Head wear All exposed.
so I think it's just his Head.

I think it's their skull. Think of them as having exoskeletons.

Yeah make sense that could be a part of his head but it is very easy to break

It is part of his head, and quite a vunerable part, hence why Megatron 'removed' it. He WAS trying to kill him.

Yeah, all of them have helmets. You can see it in their transformations. They transform with bare heads, then have the armor slipping up and over it. You can see it with Optimus, Ironhide and Bumblebee especially well during their big transformation scenes.

i have always thought of transformers as robots, who are wearing "armor" look at g1 prime, for example, he looks like he's a person, covered in some sort of armor.

and that is how i look at all transformers. i think that is how micheal bay saw it too. which is why he had the exo skeletons in it.

Eh, sort of. You could call it "armor" or you could call it a "helmet". Or perhaps armor that slides in as pieces, but then forms a solid "helmet".

    :lol

That's a really cool thing to look for. It always makes me smile when I see those armor plates *schwing!* slide over their "skulls".

However, I also like to think of those "helmets" as "Prime Crowns". Both Sentinel and Optimus had similar designs on their heads (spinning circles, 'head fins', etc.), so it's almost like Primes get a special head ornamentation, or like the original Prime's and their massive Egyptian-like headdresses. Symbols of their heritage/ancestry. Plus, without them, their "skulls" wouldn't look too distinguished, so it's like a sense of pride for them. :)  Just my theory.

That's a good question. I wonder what Optimus would like without it.

I think it's a mix between this and the skull-theory [because you really can see a series of brain-like wires when Sentinel's helmet falls off].

    They're a combination of a skull and a helmet. I call them Skelmets. :)

I guess it's kinda wrong to call it a helmet since they are all basically naked, if we use human terminology.

I wouldn't call it a helmet, as others have said, because it only came off because Megatron smashed his head into the frame of the bridge. The equivalent would probably a human splitting their skull; not fatal for the most part, but still incredibly painful.

And while Optimus always keeps his no matter what, Sentinel loses his "Prime Crown" when the chips are down.

Yeah, I think they all wear battle armor to a degree, and helmets are a part of that gear.

Here's Optimus' head before his helmet comes into place.
