Is my G1 Soundwave the original or a reissue?

I bought a loose Soundwave off ebay years ago, but until now I never really questioned what year he was from. His "butt stamp" says Takara Co, LTD '74, '83 on it and I received him with Buzzsaw (gold body). He is also the single-deck version.

It was my understanding the Takara reissue later came with Laserbeak (red body), but I am not sure if they updated the butt stamp to include the rereleased year. Is it safe to assume mine is from the original Hasbro release in '84?

Looking at the buttons bellow the cassette tape door is the dead give away. Do they look like one big chrome piece or separate buttons?

This is true. If there is blue plastic between the buttons you should have a G1.

Wow, had no idea there were so many variations. Turns out I have the 1a type variation of the original release (with separate buttons). Very informative. Thanks, everyone.
