I got the Transformers Prime first editions of Arcee, Bumblebee and Starscream a while ago, but I'm not too sure if I should open them. I'm new to collecting Transformers and I like to play with toys, but I have seen these toys already go up to about $50 dollars on other sites. Am I correct to assume that future waves of these same toys will not be first edition anymore, or will these three always remain first edition? I really wanna open them but this edition thing is holding me back.

Unless it is limited edition with only a few pieces manufactured, MOSC/MISB toys really do not appreciate that much in value nowadays. Open them up and enjoy!

I have never seen the point of buying figures to keep in a closet. Keeping toys as a monetary invest usually ends up in frustration. Open them. :2c:

Friend, open them. Any enjoyment you may get from theoretical money you might sell them for later pales to the joy of having them open, now, to entertain you.

At that price, sell them. Get two more. Open one and keep one in the box.

I doubt they're selling consistently at that price. They're just going to impatient people who dont want to wait for them to hit stores near them, or foreigners who genuinely don't know if they're going to get them locally.

Not these sorts of figures anyway; I've have great luck with my PVC appreciating, but that's mainly because they were uncommon or rare to begin with, and have only gotten more expensive to import.

Is it just me, or is this whole 'First Edition' thing basically a crappy ploy in order to grab more money from us?

I mean the OP pretty much spells it out, should I open or not? The implied purpose of the first editions is basically to add on an extra 'value' to them so you don't want to open them, but then you'll buy a non first edition later on to actually open and mess around with.

I dunno, thats how I see it, and really that blows hard chunks Hasbro.

if you want to make money on them your best bet is to sell them immediately. they wont retain that inflated value. then buy up the next versions and open them up. :)

The thing is, this sort of ploy isn't new. Comics have been constantly cancelling old series, starting off with new no 1's and then resuming the old numbering when the numbers of the old series and the new ones added up to a nice round figure (50,100,500,600 etc). Sadly toy companies though they have a collectors market, and they know how to get us to fork over our cash :p  Think about the repaints, the exclusives etc. As long as we buy what they make, they'll make more. It's not a nice practice, but a lot of us will but it and they know it :p

Some of these toys may be worth something in 10 or 15 years. But if you want to invest money, the stock market is considerably less risky. :p

I still have a few toys from when I was a kid that have appreciated enough to where they would be worth selling. But none have appreciated enough to where I'd want to sell them, considering the reason I still have them to begin with is that I wanted to keep them.

    Open your toys.

The $50 is people chancing their arm because TFs are 'Hot' right now.
Have a look on eBay, you'll see people asking daft prices for things that just aren't that rare.

I'm having flashbacks of polybagged copies of X-Force 1.

And yes i did buy all five.
