Is it me or has Optimus become kind of soft?

Now don't get me wrong, I think Optimus is awesome. However is seems that Transformers Prime kinda turned Optimus into somewhat of a wuss.

For Example he has already been:
Absent in almost every battle since the premire,
    Beaten by Decepticon drones,
    Nearly frozen to death,
Got Shocked and nearly taken down by Knockout,
and more recently, been infected with some Cyber virus.

Sure he has had his moments, but not as many moments as he should.

    What do you think?

I think they're just trying too keep OP away from the limelight. He does steal all the autobots thunder in other continuities.

    I'll respectfully disagree that he's a wuss.

he fought cons & such in about half of the episodes after darkness rising so no, I wouldn't call him absent.

beaten? yeah, only after Fowler distracted him and a drone used a tree, IMHO it'd be like someone getting hit with a Baseball bat. so not a wuss there.

nearly Frozen? vehicles have to be specially prepped to handle extreme cold like that, & Autobots didn't seem set up for extreme cold duty.

Taking the apparent equivalent of a tazer to the throat? he's tough but not a god bot.

becoming infected with a virus doesn't mean one is a wuss.

So to me some things have happened to Optimus but he isn't soft.

He kind of did wreck an entire army of zombie Decepticons in the pilot, mind you.

Because they're fleshing out the rest of the cast first. Optimus is usually the same basic character, so it's more important to establish the newer guys first.
You say that like the drones aren't tough. Bulkhead struggled with one. And Prime wasn't even paying attention. He got hit with a cheap shot.
Not exactly something he can fight. (and yet he did)
    And then back-handed him.
Which again, not exactly something you can fight in the traditional sense.

Maybe he's a busy guy? Besides, how else are the young-ins going to learn how to handle themselves when he's no-longer there?

He was distracted, and the fall is what did most of the damage to him.

Something that I imagine could happen to even the best of them, even Megatron.

Another instance of being caught off-guard. He also prevented it from happening a second time.

We still don't know exactly how he got infected, and by the sounds of it in the previews, the plague itself is extremely devastating.

He isn't soft, but he isn't invulnerable like some previous incarnations were portrayed as. Honestly, I really like him this way.

He'll man up more so once Megatron wakes up. However, in the meantime, I so enjoy the fact that he isn't exactly the Go-To, Be-All, End-All character in every episode. That'd be kinda repetitive.

If you focus on all the times someone's taken a hit or lost a fight, anyone is going to seem kinda weak.

If I recall, G1 Prime doesn't exactly have a record of being an undefeated champion, either.

This Optimus is nicer than any other in my opinion... He isn't the spotlight at every chapter or something like that, the other characters are getting major development (well, except for Ratchet and Bee... but I don't care about Bee for a while, movieverse has me saturated of Yellow cars)
let's just wait for more chapters, I mean we're just starting the season, why complaint about development if this is just starting! ._. I don't want TF: Prime to end fast =)

To me it almost seems like he's got nothing but a massive amount of bad luck in Prime.

I think that variety is the spice of life and my pleasures are spoiled by making them routine. Having Optimus used sparingly only serves to make his appearances all the more awesome: showing up in the end of 'Speed Metal', to save the day after having been absent for a couple of eps is a good example.

In a few short minutes he:

    Stops Knockout
    Gives Knockout a serious injury
Rescues the hostage without injuring him
Chastises the human and Autobots alike for being tossers
Clearly establishes why he is leader

I'd say thats pretty good going.

SCOURGE: "Have I got the wrong idea, or are these guys a bunch of wimps?"
CYCLONUS: "Yes, they appear to be wimps."

Just kiding! :)  I agree they're keeping him away, so other characters get their chance to shine.

Agreed, I'd rather focus on all the characters and give them all equal screen time if possible, rather than having it all focus on the leader or main character :D

To be honest, I find hero characters who can't be defeated boring. go watch G1, Prime got beaten up loads of times.

I don't think it's so much that he's a wuss, it's that the writers don't really know what the hell to do with him. But that's me.

I was thinking the same. In the Movie-Continuity he is over the top. But in Prime he is like a Grandpa. Occasionally when I watch the G1 DVDs I notice a big difference. In G1 he had always fitting words for any situation, but he was not just a wise Grandpa who already knew anything. he ran around with his big fucking gun and was shooting around when there was something to shoot, although he never intended to kill anyone.

But TF:p  as a show is in general a bit soft. The pilot was really great. It seemed as if it would be storytelling like in LOST and really cool action. But then the show itself is more like just every other show. The single episodes mostly have no connection although there is at least continuity. It's still entertaining to watch and I love the show. But the pilot promised more.

I think they should get at least every three or four episodes back to the general overall storyline. But there is nothing. Megatron just hibernates there and is not of interest in anyway. Dark Energon? Never heard of again.
