I haven't seen enough pictures of him to accurately make an assessment, but so far I'm underwhelmed. I was using Energon Shockblast since he looks the most similar to Classics, but his giant arm and wide hip joints bug me. For now I'm sticking with DOTM Shockwave. He doesn't look particularly G1, but he's purple, he's got a gun arm and a hose, he looks like he'll kick anyone's ass, and he's larger than a deluxe. That'll do for now.

 

FOC Shockwave is too small for me unfortunately. Energon Shockblast is my classics Shockwave, can stand face to face with Voyager Classics Megatron. All he needs is some purple paint on his chest and arms and he's good to go (the purple Tamiya paint I used is slightly shinier than the purple plastic and shows up a bit brighter in the picture with camera flash).

I actually separated my wfc toys out from classics recently, so he'll go with them. He looks fantastic, but I've been waiting to fill wfc shocky's spot for awhile now so that's where he'll go. Seekers are gonna be great too.

This is probably the closest we'll get to a classics shockwave though so I can see why people would do it. Unless for some reason hasbro is riding the shockwave popularity from dotm and foc and has a classics/generations shockwave up their sleeves too :3

Considering a straight remake of the original Shockwave isn't going to happen, ever, and Shockblast is underwhelming...yes, FoC Shockwave will probably end up my default version unless Prime gives us something really cool.

I really don't have a problem with this since I'm not too hung up on scale and most of my collection is deluxe with a few above and below that range.

 

I'm going to be using the third-party Hearts of Steel Shockwave.

it does work when you think about it because shockwave never actually had an earth mode.
but for me.. hell no!

i don't like the mold at all, plus its way to small.

FoC Shockwave will be my Classics. UNTIL a 3rd Party add on comes out that bulks him up to Voyager size and let's him become a gun!

I'll wait for a better one as Fans Toys have hinted he may be in their future plans and subject to the final QC I'll also get the Hearts of Steel version as I love the design and scale.

Until a better Shockwave comes around, (which probably won't anytime soon) this will suffice!
