We haven´t heard any news from them. Have gone the route of Igear and closed shop?
Not again... we JUST finished one of these threads. Short answer: not dead, being restructured, not willing to communicate with fans, still have plans for figures such as Snarl which will be redesigned, no ETA on anything. Could be next month, could be in a year.
Well, 4 of their toys were in the panel under the Maas Toys brand.
Could be 5 yrs. Could be a decade. Could be when we have grandchildren ....
They are dormant in Teletraan I waiting to be reformatted.
Didn't you hear? Teletran I was destroyed. Teletran II can tell you all about it
Q: Is Fans Projects dead?
A: NO! But they may as well be at this point.
It seems like many, if not most or all Third Party companies can come and go in a flip of a switch. This is because they appear to be nothing more than side project companies that are funded to some extent either by the parent company or privately by a group of people working together running it. Their continuing existence literally dependent on how well their most recent release did in sales profit. I may not be all that accurate, but I think this is the general gist of it over there in China. Here today, gone tomorrow. Back again later on. Maybe with a new name, maybe not.
Not dead at all.
They've just left their dinbot releases unfinished, passed on several designs to another company, have no future plans they've made public and refuse to engage with fans and customers on any level.
But yeah, still alive
3Ps are very difficult to kill. The designers may go off and work for other companies or under new names, but they rarely leave the scene forever. So...maybe something new will rise from the ashes. But the FP brand itself may be dead.
I think they just got unlucky - they began a series of Dinobots at the same time as a lot of other companies, they were part-way through a series of Headmasters just as Titans Return got unveiled, their Pretender Monsters (or at least, the shells) had some severe pricing issues, and they tried a Diaclone homage (one with QC problems, at that) just as real Diaclones sprang up again. They got unlucky, and they got burned. Oh, and there was that issue with the sticker book as well.
Fansproject as a name used to have great cachet within the community. Their upgrade sets for Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus and Bruticus were amongst the first great 3rd Party offerings, ultimately paving the way for the burgeoning scene we see today.
But they seem to have been left behind (to a certain extent) as other - younger - companies have overtaken them in terms of engineering, QC, poseability, 'handfeel' and overall design. If they do come back, I think they need a bit of a re-think and a new strategy, because the fandom are used to a better level of product now than what Fansproject have been offering in recent years.
That said, their Glacialbots were superb. Another combiner in that style would be a winner in my book.
They came out of the gate very strong but I think they just didn't evolve well and sooner then later company's left them in the dust. I started buying their Dinos but more then half way through I realized I really just hated them and totally wish I went the PX route.
I've never liked a thing they've done. A very acquired taste, i guess.
Yes they make weird stuff - But that was part of the appeal of their stuff - that it looked a bit strange.
I don't know what they plan to do with Snarl 2.0 but I hope if they change it - it still matches the others in size and style.
I wouldn't mind if they actually made a Hardhead as well so at least we get some sort of set complete there.
If they do make one more Dino I'd apprecuate the missile launchers for all of them that they didn't include (people so often forget to include those)
On another issue as much as I like weird - I don't think I want to pay a premium for the new Axcelerators the feet they have are very off putting the FP "Dead End" Stunticon had a better idea of how to do similar feet.
Fuckin hell man. Is it time for the bi-weekly "FP is dead" thread again? Where does the time go...
They're dead to me....does that count?
If they need an injection of capital, I wonder if they could afford (and make money off of) doing the pretender monsters as a boxed set. I'd buy them.
I thought that Fans Hobby is somehow related to Fans Project. Spiritual successor, maybe?
Actual Fansproject sighting:
Sadly, no. They got lazy and careless. The only reason other companies surpassed them is because they allowed it. It was recklessness on their behalf and the consequences of their acts will bite them in the tookus.
