I bought one and can provide picture tonight after home. yes, it is ROTF deluxe Breakaway.

The first pic was taken at the store; poor lighting, and my phone camera didn't flash, anyway, the middle one is the dark brown breakaway.

Interesting. I thought we had heard it was the Takara version of it? Or was that just an assumption? If it's a running change, cool. The colors still look odd on the mold, imo, however less odd as the lighter tan did. I'll either get him to kitbash, or wait for a better repaint. Skywarp's color scheme would look pretty cool on the mold, imo. Well, black repaints are almost always cool looking, and there aren't too many paint jobs that would be worse than the one Breakaway already has, lol.

 

On the shelf I saw... (and I looked at each one to get a quick head counts) I saw 3 breakaway in the light tan color; while only 1 in that dark brown color. So of course I bought that rare one without second thought.

Btw, the tan color looks cheap on plastic I mean...

It's not really news anymore, Mike (GhenZao) provided pictures of it a while back, I think.

It is technically news as GenZhao said that the version darker was Takara not Hasbro

 

As for packaging, if the 2007 line was anything to go by, Japanese ROTF should be exactly the same, except maybe it has a sticker or two with the japanese logo.

 

I presume the point of interest here that wasn't spelled out clearly is this was found at US retail? Probably just a mistake, but would be interesting if it was a variant or a running change...

 

If there is a picture to be compared, I may be able to tell...

I can't remember whether Japanese TFTM packaging has any Japanese title..

 

Well... no one really asked until now... and yes, I found and bought it from a Frys' electronics store in California. On the shelf, I found 3 light tan colors Breakaway while only 1 dark color Breakaway.

No. Fry's has always stocked US stuff.

Frys does import videogames. I remember seeing several Japanese titles when I was looking for NDS games.
