That Sunbow never did a full fledged TF/GI Joe crossover? I know we got 'Only Human' and there were a few TF references in GI Joe, but seriously, I think it would of been a lot fun to see the two shows crossover in cartoon form.

    Ditto.

Technically, Sunbow could've crossed over all their properties back then. By the look of things, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Inhumanoids, Jem, etc. all took place in some kind of shared universe. Hell, I think C.O.P.S. even figures into that mess somewhere.

It happened in comic form, which is good enough for me. After how they butchered G1, I have no faith in Sunbow to pull it off well.

Dude that would have been radical.

hopefully TF: Prime and GI Joe: Renegades will have a cross-over.

I'm more surprised we've never seen a G.I Joe / TF combined toyline. Starscream as a Rattler? Hell yes.

well we did get that one season 3 G-1 1986 episode called
"only human". that did a great job of merging the TF universe with the joe universe.
as snake was clearly cobra commander in the future 2006 TF time line. wasn't there also a few dreadnocks & flint & lady jay's daughter in that "only human" TF season 3 episode.

I think the marvel G-1 comics did the best job with their TF/G.I Joe cross-overs.

Actually, Melissa Fairborne was supposed to be Flint's daughter, wasn't she? She appeared in quite a few S3 episodes.

Considering the quality of the vast majority of crossover stories, I'm not particularly disappointed at all.

Not particularly. The TF would've probably just ended up as the talking pet vehicles of the Joes and taking all their orders from their new human masters.

As it is most TF/GI Joe crossovers run along the lines of the Joes attacking the TF thinking they're rampaging robot monsters, taking advantage of the fact the Autobots won't fight back and thus defeating them, and then both sides coming to an understanding and then the TF become their pet talking vehicles. Then usually the Decepticons end up working with Cobra, who are both trying to double-cross each other.
These crossovers always sound promising in their most basic concept (TF changing into GI Joe vehicles, perhaps also Decepticons into Cobra ones) but then ruined by the actual execution of the story with the TF having much reduced roles, usually subservient to the humans. There's probably been only one TF/GI Joe crossover that just about worked.

I was never a GI Joe fan back when I was a kid so I doubt I'd have much enjoyed a crossover cartoon. 'Only Human' was okay for one episode but I can't say I'd have liked it as the norm. It helped that the human TF were piloting their own TF bodies instead of a GI Joe doing it, so the TF were taking on both robot and human roles instead of some army faff in control of the TF.

There's been enough of it in the comics and movies these days anyway. If it had been done way back in the old days too then the TF franchise might've been saddled with this crossover for all the time since the 80s. Horrible.

I quite liked the Devil's Due crossovers. There were some nice designs in the first 2 series as well with the TF's as either Cobra vehicles or 30's, 70's cars.

I really liked their take on Serpentor in the third series and the final story with Cobra La and Bludgeon. Also the whole Hawk/Matrix thing.

They went on for 3 or 4 years so have outlasted a lot of other TF series yet in my opinion, they're seriously overrated. The 2nd time travel series was the weakest but overall, they're very good.

That might've been the crossover I was thinking of. First one was the best but then they got increasingly worse as each series went on.

I think they were planning on it but by that time they had already jumped Transformers to 2005 so the GI Joe characters would be too old to do so. Hence the episode Only Human.
