ok My moms Iphone is starting to die as a phone and is slowly turning into an Ipad Nano my mom said by wednesday she is going to replace her 2nd gen Iphone with a 3G and i can have her Ipad Nano ahem I mean iphone as a basic ipod touch(sans phone function). the thing is though for some reason headphones won't plug in the jack all the way. luckily The iphone can still fully function without headphones but I still would like to be able to listen to my music/movies without being an annoyance I've checked the Jack and I see nothing wrong with it but the headphone piece won't insert all the way. I want to see if I can fix it myself before scheduling a visit to the apple store. any suggestions?
Two thing's. First, have you tried using Itunes itself to restore it? When you plug in your Iphone to your computer, and you have Itunes running and Itunes sees your Iphone, it has the option of restoring your Iphone. This generally fixes 99% of the problems. Secondly, the Iphone's headphone jack is deeper routed then the Ipods headphones. When I bought a set of Shure headphones for my Ipod, it came with a special adaptor to use on the Iphone, although I never use the Iphone that way since it never holds the amount my Ipod does. You might want to look for something that plugs in deeper, or try to find a specifically-designed Iphone headset. Finally, if you use a lot of apps on your Iphone, that will eat-up the space on it's hard-drive thus giving you less Itunes space. And always remember, a movie is 2-4 GB's in size depending on regular, or HD.
There has to be a piece of lint / paper in the headphone jack. You can try canned air. Also, try taking a toothpick in there to root around. You can use a metal pin, but be really careful scraping in there. Metal on metal contact might strip something.
I think that more definition of dying as a phone would also help here. Are you getting reduced battery life or reduced signal or something else. And as far as headphone jacks go, Apple wonderfully designed the iPhone to not quite work with all plugs by default. If there doesn't appear to be anything in the jack, try a set of iPhone headphones (yes 20-30 dollars is a bit stiff) and see how those work. As a plus, you will get inline controls for volume as well.
apparently sometimes when I call her phone it doesn't go through...even when we're in the same room when she makes calls she can't hear the other person right or it s=doesn't go through but it's flawless as an Ipod
See about getting the sim card replaced for calls not going through. It is, or well, was usually a routing issue or a damaged sim card back when I was there. Does the call show up eventually as a missed call?
Just let your Mom know that in about a week they will be announcing the 4th gen iPhone that will probably be on sale before the end of the June. If I were her I would would wait on buying a replacement til then. (Not to make you wait longer for your hand-me-down)
I told her last month about the 4G but she says she can't wait any longer and she already ordered the 3Gs....
Speaking of Iphone questions, how the hell do I get rid of 1.3 gigs worth of "OTHER" Category crap? I don't have that many contacts and I don't get emailed forwarded to my Iphone.
that'll be album artwork for your tunes and system files/caches. i think when syncing with itunes you can specify to copy without artworks.
AT&T confirms to employees new iPhone launching in June Boy Genius Report she wants to get rid of the one she just ordered now
Nah, I cleaned up. I mean I have a lot of music, but this happened from one moment to the next. I don't sync music, I control it manually, but I sync apps. I don't have too many on my phone right now. I plan on getting the new phone so hopefully It won't be an issue for long.
