Ion Shield for Interplanetary Spaceships Now a Reality | Universe Today
Someone might actually get to say "Shields up!" in real life?
Oh, that is too awesome.
Well, that is awesome!
Ok, I'm not normally one to get all goofy over DC's space reports... but ION shields are just fucking cool.
So now all we have to do is collect all of the money in the world and put it into research and development.
I don't see that happening any time soon, but it is a neat idea. It must be really frustrating to be a scientist. I know they fight over budgets. Well, at least at the collegiate level.
Science Rules! So does the imagination of old sciencefiction writers, were seeing strories and fictional devices happen every day now.
Now we just need ships that are fast enough to actually get anywhere in a decent amount of time.
I want one just for personal use, to run around in. Bubbleboy style
And go streaking through some Iraqian battles
Hell, a personal Ion Shield would be the best defense against Hostile Aliens if we ever encounter some.
Go Space Marines!
Just as long as they only attack us with radiation
Awesome. I know that one of the largest design concerns in Mars missions has always been solar flares and the like. That some spacescraft designs put inches of water all around the crew areas of the ship to stop stray ions, but had much concern about a major solar storm.
