Need some help guys. All things being equal in a computer, which chip would outperform the other running on a laptop with windows 7 home premium? Would the difference be incredible or just nothing special. Would it be worth $30 for the SU2700?

    Thanks

From what I understand, the Pentium SU2700 operates at a lower power level so your battery life should be longer than with the Celeron. I'm not real familiar with it though.

Neither one is a high end processor, but Windows 7 doesn't need a beast to run well.
Go for it! $30 should not be a big deal when buying a laptop.

Look at it this way a Celeron is a Pentium that has had a Lobotomy. Get the Pentium every time.

How much RAM does Windows 7 home premium demand for the average user? are we talking about 1 gb for the system?

Don't go for the celeron dear god no. Ram is cheap also. so you might wanna spend a little bit to upgrade that also.

Why does CNET list the Celeron as above pentium?

The difference between a Celeron and a Pentium is in the internal cache. Pentium has twice more internal cache memory (some cases even 4 times) than Celeron. For web surfing, movies, older games (older than 3-4 years) the difference is not so noticable, but when it comes to graphic intensive stuff and some pretty tough calculations, renderings and similar, the difference does get noticable in the favor of pure-breed Pentium. So always get a Pentium when you're in a similar dillema, especialy when the price difference is small, as it is a case here.
