So, probably throwing Child pornography in a room of DEA agents... But, lets ask this one anyways.

"If all third party products where produced by Hasbro, but labeled at the same price point, would you still buy it?"

First, I'd be wondering why a small deluxe, Hasbro level mass produced toy would be selling for $50. If it's just exactly the same (production run, availability, etc) except with Hasbro slapped on instead of Fansproject, sure, why not?

If the only difference is that Hasbro's name is on the package, then yes.

    -edit-

Actually, it probably doesn't matter. I can rationalize paying for a quality product.

Honestly, no as long as Hasbro was doing it in a mattycollector subscription service kind of way; ie providing characters that might not otherwise see retail that are fan demanded. One that pops out to me is the oversized Platinum w/ Lead figures that are included in the infinite earths subscription that wouldn't have seen the light of day without the subscription. I don't mind paying extra for something that I want.

Hell, isn't that why we are paying 60+ bucks for retooled/repainted deluxes from TFCC and Botcon? Wheeljack that I can get from bbts for 10 bucks with a little paint and a new head...

If it's up to the quality of the 3rd parties I buy from, then yes.

I would pay. The problem is not the price - it is Hasbro getting me to believe that the product is good. Their recent track record makes it a dubious proposition, with quality being eroded.

IF the item still sported the limited production run then yes

IF they were in every target and wal-mart then no

I honestly think 3rd parties should do numbered items on their production runs to make them more collectible

I don't see the dilemma

It would have to be upto standard.....none of the MP Rodimus Prime QC shit they are shovelling out. If so then yeah why not.....let's say iGear were taken into the fold, one would assume all those tasty looking projects would then actually be pumped out faster and see the light of day and would already have all correct decals etc without fiddling around with repro labels etc. We'd all pay for that.

People pay premium prices for Takara stuff, so I think most would pay. There'd be more complaints of course.

Most people have said they don't buy 3rd party because of the price, not the maker.

If they were produced at as low a run as these, then yes.
In fact, many of us do, having bought at least one Botcon toy, which often sell at 3rd party prices.

Nope. If it was only for the price, then I would at least buy Masterpiece Grimlock.

The problem with third parties is, infringement of intellectual property (I don't think they sell their stuff without margins) and it is too expensive.

So just taking out the ip infringement of the equation won't change anything.

The price is still to high.

Again as someone said, all depends on quality and how much I want something.

If it is a character never before done and which my only other way to get would be a full custom (more risk as I am clumsy, same price for all parts materials etc) then I will buy, who made it or how much they are profitting on me are of absolutely no consequence if I can pay and believe the end resuilt ioten fits my needs enough to justify the cost.

I buy stuff from third parties because they are making what I want, pure and simple. So it would make no difference if they were produced by Hasbro officially; in fact I'd be even happier to buy them in proper TF packaging with TF names and faction symbols. Well, unless Hasbro started mass producing them in huge quantities, because if they did, and they were still labelled at the third party prices, it would be unjustifiably extortionate.

Actually I wouldn't mind seeing Hasbro 'approving' or licensing some third party products, if only for the official stamp that might silence the "IP infringement" complainers. A price decrease would be a happy side-effect.

If quality were up there with the better 3rd parties and the pieces were still limited, then yes, I'd buy them. But there's no way I could ever justify spending all that money on something that was mass produced.

Probably, especially if I can find the same kinds of products in-store. That would save me the cost to ship.

I'm already paying the prices and I don't care who gets the money, so I'm not sure what difference the question makes.

It depends on the figure and the quantity produced, and whether it would be expected to cost more. Obviously if something like the FP Insecticons were mass produced, they would probably be more expensive than a voyager because of the part count or whatever. The iGear seekers are about where they would be if Hasbro released them - MP11 is more expensive or about the same as the coneheads, and more than the regular F-15 models. Something like HOS Prime could be done a lot cheaper if it were mass produced.

Let's be clear though: I'd pay the prices if Hasbro gave me what the third parties give me - no reduced paint apps, no crappy carded bubble packaging, include the cards/stickers/comics/whatever. Give up the goofy plastic boxes or funky shapes designed to draw attention on the shelves - there's nothing wrong with regular shaped boxes, a window, a good clamshell inner tray, etc. Honestly, with the way I feel about Hasbro's releases lately, I'll pay more if I have to for stuff, but I won't buy as much. I'm not saying I would automatically pay 3rd party prices all the time, but I'd rather pay more than the current $12-$25 if it meant getting something that actually looks like they cared about the way the figure looks. I understand that their current direction is to have the big weapons with mechtech-style gimmicks and/or lights or whatever, and I just don't get as excited for that. I'd love to see them go to "premium" deco releases that forego the goofy weapons and lights and focus on a kickass deco - I'd pay more for that. I think it worked well for the movie (2007) line and is an idea they should explore further.

If they were produced by Hasbro at the same amount, I would. But only if Hasbro's producing the same amount.

If they are producing say, FP Scouts, but at the numbers that they produce say, a Bumblebee deluxe, then no, I won't buy it at that price. They are having a ton of profit if that's the case.

I've just never understood why Hasbro doesn't just buy the molds or toy(and make a mold)Like the Insecticons/Devy/Ultra magnus armor,Fix them to be proper transformers and resell them.I think Hasbro could very easy kill the 3rd party market.I don't think they will,3rd party fills a hole hasbro can't fill. So,would i buy Hasbro product at 3rd party price? NO.
